Joe, you obvious have the Video Game gods smiling down upon you. :king: It's as if you've cornered the market on video game karma. :king: :king: :king:
No words can express how I exactly feel right this moment. All I have to say is one question that's on everyone's mind: are you going to sell them?

Well, when I buy collections like this they don't come cheap - so YEAH, I plan on selling this stuff as quickly as possible. I wouldn't have taken it home if I didn't need to get a handle on what's there, what they're worth, what I can sell in the store, what I can sell on eBay, etc. right away.
A few of the games are already accounted for. If you're a local you'll start to see these games on the shelf as early as this week. If you visit the eBay store you'll see some titles pop up on Wednesday or Thursday.
I already own most of the stuff. There were only a dozen or so titles that I'm keeping and (if you didn't already know my self-imposed rule on collecting lately) for each of those, something from my existing PC Engine collection will go to the store in exchange anyway. So I've got 520 games to sell, chop chop!

Wow, I cant imagine how much money this guy got for this lot, I'm guessing over a thousand!
I can't even fathom selling a collection such as this unless you're really hard up for money.

I was wondering the same thing. There is lots of wasted effort there :(

Depending on what shows up on the shelves and when (can't imagine all 500+ showing up at once) I'll probably be in the market for some of them. Pretty awesome stuff.

UPDATE: That WAS a complete US TurboGrafx collection. I found the rather important missing game, Magical Chase, in a tiny stack of loose HuCards. Figures that would be the loose one... but still better than NOT having it :)

Yeah... After all the blood, sweat, and teas I have poured into my gaming collection, I couldn't imagine selling it all off one day. I don't care how hard up for cash I was, I'm sure I could find another way than selling it.

Magical Chase!!! Everytime I have seen the US version of this game on Ebay (which isn't very often) I record how much it goes for. I have never seen the price of a game fluxuate so much. ESPECIALLLY the US version.
Out of curiosity was there a copy of Sapphire in there? Either way you are a VERY lucky man Joe...

I asked that question. He isn't a young guy. I asked "why now?"
He said that it was sitting in his basement for a long time. He wasn't using it anymore. And I was getting some clear hints that his wife was a factor here. She had "lost" or sold his catalog of games and it seems this stash was hidden and it had to go. I don't normally ask these questions and I particularly don't care but like you and I'm sure many others you have to ask how someone could collect this much specific stuff and then let it go. So I had to ask. Obviously the answer I got wasn't real clear but it was enough to remind me why I don't ask these questions in the first place.

The chase is much more fun, THIS is exciting but in my shoes strictly business. I built my personal TG collection from the ground up back in the day. Didn't take me 10 years mainly because I was SO into the system from its launch, and then cleaned up when everything went bargain basement (and with much help from Turbo Zone Direct and the Turbo List!). I'm very proud of my personal collection and of these 520 games have added just 11 titles to my collection. I'm also giving 11 of my PC Engine games up as I am "maxed out".
There's collecting, and then there's business. I'd go broke if collecting took priority over business.

That is intense. I can only imagine the look on your face with this guy came in and showed it to you. I'm guessing he's out of the gaming scene, which would be sad how so many veterans fall out of the hobby and will lose so many great stories of experiences that may never come back into the mainstream.
Well, I for one certainly wish I were closer to your store to pick up some of those games. Good luck on the selling!

I believe I have a poker face when it comes to these things. I played it skeptical, then I played it "par for the course",then I played it "I am broke".
He did OK though, in my opinion. I just have to do better because now "I am broke" for real :)

I helped Joe carry the stuff in and I have to say the guy who sold the collection did not look like he would play video games let alone collect them. Even his friend looked out of place in the store, at first I though they were someone's father (or grandfather) who tagged along. I do have to say it is a most impressive collection, it will do very well when it makes it to the store shelves.

It seems to happen a few times every year, which is why I shake my head when people go "geee, I want a complete (system x) collection."
The dude should've sold the highlights on eBay or somewhere else and then tried to dump what was left in a lot. Of course, that's a lot of work.
Any chance we can find out what Joe paid for it all?
Edit:
There was some discussion about Magical Chase on the Shmups Forum...somebody wanted it, although I dunno if they wanted the PC-E or TG-16 version.
Edit #2: Silly me, of course it doesn't have a caravan mode.

Joe,
Just in case you didn't know...one of those JPN games, Fausette Armour (sp?) (2nd pic, bottom row, 4th from the right) is worth $100.
Good game too, if you don't have it and can afford to hold on to it you should.

Agreed. The guy definitely didn't seem like a PLAYER, and was border-line collector (he called the spine cards "spin cards" and I had no idea what he was talking about until he described them to me). Most certainly a reseller of some sort. My guess is that HE bought this from a collector and is just flipping it, probably years later.

nice haul. Great Game lot finds seem to be popping up more often as of late(obviously not to the calibur of this one though). I recently scored a large TG-16 lot locally of about 100 games from a person who was not a collector(just a fan of TG-16). I wonder if it has anything to do with the bad economy or not. Either way, congrats...he took it to the right place!
