I am trying to use a game genie for SNES, I have cleaned it and what not. If the green light is on the game won't boot after the cheat screen, it will start if the switch is turned off. I have tried it several times and codes don't work since it won't start the game with the light on. Am I doing something wrong or is the genie dead?

I find when that happens 9 times out of 10 it is a bad connection with the game to Game Genie.

Does it almost always boot turned off, no matter the game? My guess was a dirty female end too. I have the same problem with my n64 game shark. My genesis genie works like a charm though...

theres also a couuple snes revisiions that don't work with certain snes genies particularly early run genies and newer snes systems (either model)

I have a model 2, funny you ask. It won't boot timeslip at all, Super Ghouls and Ghosts has a garbled intro screen and crashes and Roadrunner actually worked. I may need an original console.

i have looked into this myself. the only ones that are 100% compatible with the game genie that ive confirmed are boards made between 91 and part of 92 (for american snes systems) the board revision SHVC-CPU-01 is the only one ive seen that does not have the protections for copiers/cheat devices... i read that around 92 nintendo tried suing galoob and lost so thy decided to put some protections in to mess with cheat devices and copiers (which started coming out around 92ish iirc) for super famicom systems it should be the same, they are identical internally aside from the AC adapter jack and the RF adapter
