Forgive my crap pictures. I'm not sure how many people actually own one of these things, but I don't think there are many...Allows you to use Virtual Boy games on a TV. Development tool from Intelligent Systems.

I've never seen one like that before. Where did you find it?

Damn, i've only seen one once and i try to keep a look out for VB stuff. That'll fetch ya a nice sum, assuming you're selling and not buying...
If i wern't saving up cash to move, i'd jump on that.

ProgAce: Not trying to sell it, but I figured I would get a few hits with pics on it. I just bought it recently, and FINALLY have some type of development Virtual Boy item to some extent.

very cool, glad it's in good hands then. Now you need to get the complete dev kit setup off of Assembler. You know he's not using it for anything...

Heh, you know, I'm not into "hardware" as much, but a Virtual Boy thing you can play on your TV? now that's more my style ;) I do want a VBOY proto one day, though.

Jason you continue to blow my mind. You must have contacts with some very serious people in the gaming industry that you aren't giving up!

I live only a state away from you. And if I ever find out where you live....
J/K, but that thing is awesome!

Very cool. Do you know anything about it? Where it's been, etc?

I think it's interesting that it has an "Intelligent Systems" logo on the back...Aren't they just the remnants of R&D#1? They make Warioware games now right? Or are they some other, non-related company?

They were the ones that had the Wide Boy capture units for various Nintendo systems....they do the DS one as well

Vairous console manufacturers have Intelligent Systems design dev consoles for them. They're pretty good at it. I'm not convinced Ninty doesn't own part (or all) of them. Hudson made a number of the Gamecube dev kits, but i'm not sure if they make the R-Dev or not (Wii dev kits)
The DS version of the Wideboy is called the IS-Nitro-Capture btw, because it was made by IS. That's how they get DS games to show up on those plasma screens when they do tours. It's pretty cool to see DS games played on dual 50" plasmas.

Technical question does it just use one of the led arrays so it doesnt have to emulate the parallax effect? I would love to see some video of this thing in action. If you EVER decide to sell it do feel free to PM me thats a really cool piece of hardware.

MrSparkle, I do not understand what you are asking. I don't know what any of that stuff is. It is a 2D non motioned looking device. I guarantee I won't be selling it unless I am offered an OBSCENE amount of money.

The parallax effect has little to do with the dual displays. I'd imagine the device does just what you suggested and only displays either the left or the right channel.

The scanner port may have been used for a video printer...the devices they used to use to do screen grab prints and then put pics in mags. It's the same way they used to make whole level maps by screen-grabbing every area and puzzling them together where you see your character on every screen.

Sorry to bump this somewhat old topic... but very cool find! The scanner port is an output for the VB display so you can play it on a VB headset as well as the TV. It's a specially modified system which is basically just a display and a board to drive the display (it's not a real VB, nor would you be able to connect a VB to that port). I borrowed a VB development kit a while back... you can see what I'm talking about in the pics on my site: http://home.comcast.net/~virtual.boy/projectvb/debugger.html .
BTW, I seem to remember seeing a Japanese site a while ago w/ a Video Boy that had anaglyph output to the TV (Red/Blue)... is there a switch somewhere on there to enable that? I also seem to remember a picture with different colors (green VB screen)... not sure if that was selected with an option, or if they just used the RGB output and swapped pins.
And I don't want to hijack your thread, so I won't link anything, but somewhat related if you're interested... I've been working on a TV/VGA adapter off and on for a while (details on my site)... it works, but the hardware is a big mess of wires and boards. One of these days I hope to get it all put together on a board fully internal to a regular VB system, just haven't had the time to do the PCB layout.

There might be, I have to check it out. I'm waiting on some development EPROMS for this blank Virtual Boy proto PCB I have so I can at least have something to demo, which means that is when I will dig it out to check on the switch....

Interesting. I thought I read somewhere devs use an official emulator to test stuff.
Or is this for when they want to check stuff on actual hardware?

Nintendo provides an emulator, but i'm not sure how accurate it is. Fun fact, they provided one for the Gamecube as well.
The IS-Capture is only to take screen shots and display a DS on a larger screen.
