I noticed that Guilty Gear is an R7 in the guide, and I can certainly agree that it should be, but what is the story behind it's high rarity rating?
Just a short print, or what? It is an Atlus game after all, so I assume that has something to do with it.

Not many were printed, but it is still bought and sold regularly. Its like Raystorm, rare, but not pricey.

Hm, I see.
How many copies do you think were produced?

Knowing Atlus, probably not many. ;)

No point in speculating since we never hear any kind of official numbers.

It wasn't published in huge quantities, plus its a fighter, plus its a good fighter, all leading up to it being pretty hard to find. An R7 might be a *smidge* high, but if it went down it would only go to R6.

I still think Raystorm might deserve a lower rating. I confirmed with Victor Ireland himself that the Fan Edition of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete had a print run of about 10,000 copies and that has an R5 rating. Raystorm had at least three times that if this listing is accurate:

So either those numbers are wrong, Raystorm is rated higher than it should be, or Lunar Fan Edition is rated lower than it should be.

That fan edition is rated too low IMHO. All of the working designs box sets are rated pretty low. But then again, there are plenty of copies on ebay.

What's the general breakdown between ratings? Like is it 1,000,000+ copies = R1, 500,000-1,000,000 = R2? Because if it's done by print numbers then a high Ebay presence shouldn't necessarily have much of an effect. All it would mean is that there's always someone looking to get rid of the game and they might be the same 100 or so copies circulating.

Well, there had to have not been many.
In all of my years, the only copy I have seen is the one I own.

I've seen a few over the years, but its not one I've been looking for. I bought a sealed one off ebay for $20 a few years ago.

WOW! @_@
You did keep it sealed, right?
