Hum, shouldn't the box be... square?

It's probably fake. Regardless of the shape, something looks off about the design of that box. I'll compare it to mine when I get home.

don't all gameboy games have the silver gameboy stripe down the left side?

dunno if this was the same in europe, but that box reminds me alot of the gameboy colour pirate carts that I have.

Of course! Here I am saying 'something looks odd', when it was the most obvious thing missing!

I wish I knew the dimensions of the box, because to me it really looks like the Japanese Game Boy box format we all know. It might be a fake too, but I've had too many surprises in the past to qualify it as a fake without a bit of research first.

The transparent plastic tray also looks like the Japanese format (rectangular like the box, because of course the square one wouldn't fit inside).

It would be nice if you could post a picture of your box, because I can't find a good scan on the Internet.

I believe this is the proper NA box for MK3:

Um.... that looks pretty fake...

It can't be forign, because it has the ESRB mark on the front. The printing quality looks awful too. Check the connectors on the cart to see if it's a pirate.

damned if it doesnt look like an nes box.

And it can easily be foreign with esrb rating or whatever, they will photocopy anything. My favorite was the bootleg star wars figures at this flea market all of them had the princess leia packaging despite what character was inside.

How can the connectors determine if it is fake?

I usually look at the label. Look at any legit GB game, there should be a number 'etched' into the label on the right hand side. I can't imagine bootleggers would go to the trouble of replicating this.

Thanks for the replies.

It might be a fake, but this would be the first time I see a pirate copying every single detail and copyright on the box, manual and cartridge label. You can normally tell from a good distance if a Game Boy game is a pirate, but here I'm still doubtful.

I have nothing more than these pictures to judge; I don't own it unfortunately. The cart label has peeled off corners though... typically piratish. Keeping this in mind, the stock pictures you provided look of course perfect in colors and quality - I really need to compare it with some eBay used game pictures.

I thought one of the things that gave away that it was a pirate was the odd placement of the 'Official Game Boy game pak' label. But it seems the retail has that as well. Crazy.

It's also possible that this was a manufaturers slip up. I've seen this happen with other things as well and they usually get sold off to clouse out stores and what not. Or by the palette load to flea marketers.

I've actually unknowingly bought a pirate GB game in which the box, manual, and cart were identical, right down to the copyrights. Everything was lower quality, even the cellophane wrapping the box. It would be obvious to any collector it was fake, but maybe not to the average person.
