There are a ton of LCD/LED games out there - can someone sort out the good ones from the rubbish?

I have a number of LCD handhelds from the early '90s, but I'd have a hard time recommending any of them. The VFS tabletops made by the likes of Coleco and Entex are all pretty swanky, however (check out miniarcade.com (http://www.miniarcade.com/) for cool details). Compared to the VFS tabletops, LCD handhelds like Mega Man 3, Bucky O'Hare, and Space Harrier II are dogmeat.
I fired up my old Caveman tabletop the other day for the first time in years after finding a power supply that, luckily, didn't fry it. Oh, that hungry caveman.. still a champion.

Most Nintnedo Game & Watch games (especially the dual-screen ones) are fun and hold up well.
I also fondly recall owning a Tomy brand Burgertime LCD game that was excellent.
The sad thing is that the market value of these types of games are pretty high at the present time.

Mattel LED Football. Don't know why, but I love that little game.

I always enjoyed the Wizards & Warriors LCD game I had.

Played that thing a hell of a lot in the days before I had a Gameboy.

Much love for the Coleco tabletops here. I also dug Gauntlet and Castlevania on the Tiger LCD handhelds.

My Castlevania II: Simon's Quest LCD watch got a lot of play time back in the day. Mind you, back then I was amused by the simplest of things. I always wanted a Tetris watch.. there was some offer through a breakfast cereal to get one, but I never got around to it. Too bad.

I thought the color Donkey Kong game was pretty nifty. (Yes, there were color LCD games. They used some kind of clever mirror setup.)
I've also heard good things about the Zelda LCD.

Most Entex handhelds were really good.
Namely Space Invaders, Pac-Man2, Galaxian2, Super Cobra, and Crazy Climber.

I have this LED football game that is portable. Can't remember the maker, but it's white and the top curves into a stadium. I can play that thing for hours.
Found it http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Bambino/SFB.htm

this kind of qualifies. The Talking Computron had this thing when i was a kid and loved it. http://www.vidgame.net/misc/computron.htm these days its popular among the circuit bending community due to its awesome cheesy 80s synthed voice.

I'm a big fan of the Bandai handhelds (http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Bandai/index.html).. and especially their arcade translations of stuff like Crazy Climber, Track and Field (!), and others really brought home the arcade experience well enough for me as a kid back when it was still something unobtainable for the most part.
Thing is many of them were Japan only back in the 80's when Japan only really meant "JAPAN ONLY" LOL.. so they're a little harder to get these days.

I always liked the Bass Fishin' lcd game by Radica. Circa '96 I think.. (It's shaped like a reel, and it vibrates when you get a bite. And yes, you do a casting motion to throw your lure out.)

Was the Entex Turtles game any good? I'm a huge fan of the Magnavox Odyssey 2 version

I have a bunch of old LED games and my favorite by far is a game called "Split Second". It has 6 different game styles. The racing one is so addicting. I play it for hours trying to beat my time. Plus, the other games are extremely fun as well.
It can be bought complete on ebay for less than $20 and is well worth it. Such a fun game to play with someone else(taking turns). My neighbor had it when I was young and I wanted it so bad. Fast forward 20 years and I decide to try and find one. It took me a few days of surfing the internet to figure out the name of it so I could buy it online. Well worth the effort and every bit as fun as I remember it back in the day.

My brother and I used to play the baseball half of Bo Jackson Baseball/Football. It was super easy so we'd just see how many points we could score. I think the record was over 100. Sorry, it's probably not what you'd call "good" but I was just thinking about it.

Also, I liked Karnov (http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/Karnov.htm). But it's a tough one.

I really like the little FX2 games from MGA Entertainment that were available at Big Lots, Target, and a few other stores a couple of years back. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are especially good. You hold them flat, like a handheld, but you can stand then up. They look great on the shelf and are fun to play.
