Just How Many Games Are There?

Is there a running ticker somewhere that keeps track of how many video games have been developed and released? 100,000 or 200,000 or what?

I don't think the number would be much higher, it would be much lower. The Nes and Super Nes had like 700 games each, and other systems had about the same amount of games as them or a lot less. I'd have to say the number would be around 10,000.

Ah...but then again, are we just talking about US releases? What about Japan only? Europe? FM Towns Marty? Playdia? Famicom? You add the quote of 700+700 for SNES & NES together and you've got 1,400 already. Then you've got to factor in Atari, Playstation, etc. etc. boom, you just passed that mark easily

You want a total amount of just console or do you want just video games in generall?? If you include PC your mark would be at least 750k. And I do mean at least. PC alone has released at least a half million games.

if you throw computers in then I guess games like Zork that got ported to Apple II, C64, PC, Amiga, Mac, Atari, etc. would count probabyl 10 times for each game.

Well, I was thinking ALL video games developed and commercially released. That would include PC, Arcade, and Consoles. Just counting Classic consoles, the number wouldn't be all that high. I for one, have absolutely no idea how many PC games have been released over the years, but I'm sure it dwarfs anything else. It would probably be much easier to guess the amount of console games released, both US and Japanese titles. It would be interesting to know if video games have reached the 1 Million mark in developed games though.

Don't even bother with PC, you'll never even remotely be able to guess.

If you want a viable total, do just console, and narrow it down to domestic or foreign.
