Ok so i bought a white japanese sega saturn and a shitload of games for 150

The saturn is modded, and the region is set to america

I have an import cart And a ram cart but not an import+ram cart such as the action replay 4 in 1

Anyways i really want to play street fighter alpha 3 but i cant

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the region?

Insert the ram cart and start up the game.. You dont need to change the region as the game is already a JP title. If it isnt working with the ram cart, you may to purchase a ram cart that is 4Mbit as yours may be 1M and not supported by the title.

I'm not an expert, but is there a switch anywhere to change the region? When I modded mine (US Saturn), I put a switch out the back so I could change it between Japanese and US. Try looking where the battery goes.

yea typically the region switch is on the back, try removing the rear battery cover & looking there

Try holding down the reset button, if the switchless mod was used than that's probably what was wired to toggle USA/JPN. Why don't you contact the person you bought the system from if possible? If there is no way to toggle and they hardwired the system for USA mode then it's just shoddy work - which is what this is starting to sound like. It's far easier to start from a clean canvas than attempt to figure out what's wrong with a botched mod attempt.

A lot of people out there are capable of completing these mods but doing them neatly and reliably is a completely different story. Personally I think I've been harshed on more than I deserve about my mods in this past year (which is why I offer so many few these days) but of all the work I've done, it's all still at a 100% reliability rate. What I'm trying to say is a lot of these mod "deals" that seem too good to be true, often are unless you can totally see and understand what has been done to the system and how the modifications operate.

The battery slot is only one place someone could put a switch... I have seen them on the side of the machine, on the back, in the CD tray...

The switchless mod is what I put in mine as well - to activate a different region, you hold the reset button for a couple seconds.

You could also rip the game and use a utility to make a US region coded version for yourself. Try Googling "sega saturn region patcher".

BUMPAN MY OWN THREAD

So anyways I believe i know what the problem is

I think the system was modded, and i guess its chipped to the us bios (is that possible)

Is it possible to uninstall a mod chip, how easy is it and will it damage my saturn?

A mod chip has nothing to do with region, it simply allows non-official games to load but a mod chip must be installed along with a region mod to play non-native regions. Again, read what I posted above. It still sounds to me like you got hosed on this "deal" - live and learn. If there is a mod chip in there and the system will only read USA regions, then it sounds to me like it's been hardwired for USA. But again, a mod chip only allows burned games (backups) to be played, they still have to be of the correct region for the system. Removing the mod chip won't do anything but remove the ability to play backups - if there's actually even a mod chip in there.

Again, still sounds like someone put a mod chip in a JPN Saturn and then hardwired the system to USA mode rather than installing a switch to toggle between JPN and USA. Shoddy amateur work.

I got the saturn with about 15 games for 150, only reason i bought it was because it had some gems like street fighter zero 3 cib and nights us cib factory sealed

Is there any way to undo the hard wiring? or am i screwed?

thanks alot

It's probably a better idea to just go and buy another Saturn rather than undoing the mod (if it can actually be done without damaging the system).

Are the 4MB Import+Ram cards THAT hard to find / THAT expensive these days?

I never modded my Saturn and I would play imports all the time using a 4MB Import+Ram card.

i usually see them for 30 bucks and at that point i might as well get another saturn

Just buy an action replay 4-in-1

It'll bypass region and the modchip will still work for backups.

Saturn modchips only allow for backups to be played. You still need a region switch/AR4in1/etc to play games(retail and backup) outside of whatever region the system is set to.

You can change the "region" on a disk image first, and then burn it.

I have changed the region code on some of my copies of import games. They play perfectly on my Modded Saturn. I just can't read Japanese though.....:)

I just changed the region code on the Saturn .bin .CUE files. You could always just make an image of your original and do the same.
