There was an ALF game on the Sega Master System (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=18327).

Heh, you, Flack and I got our responses in at the same time.
(I might have beat you two by a minute if I hadn't decided to provide a link to the game's DP page.)

Ironically, I know that there WAS a game and I ask the same thing. Why, I ask, WHY?!

I just looked up the Sega Master System U.S. releases that were an R6 and over in the DP guide - and there's 12 of them. So that makes it one of the 12 hardest games to find for the SMS.
And the question we should be asking is - why couldn't there be a GOOD Alf game? Imagine if Konami/Ultra Games or Capcom had the rights to do an Alf game back in the day (that would've meant that we'd see it on the NES instead of the SMS, though).

Actually, that's what I thought he did ask. I was going to response with the same line the OP put in the first post where he said "ALF was a HUGE hit in the 80's." I was kind of confused at first.
However, I think the better question is why weren't there MORE Alf games!?

Ah man, I can't find it any more, but I had a screen from that game where he says "I have casted down daemons from the stars!" or something weird like that.

Now there's a game I haven't thought of in years...
Years ago, while working for the All Game Guide, I wrote a review of Alf. Here it is:
One of the weaker titles for the Sega Master System, ALF is a nonlinear adventure that could have been a nice introductory game for youngsters too old for Sesame Street, yet too young for The Legend of Zelda. Unfortunately, it is a flawed, sloppily programmed game that will frustrate beginners and disappoint veterans.
The collision detection and physics in ALF are horribly off-kilter, such as when you are walking around in the caves, warding off bats with the salami. Oftentimes a bat can drop straight down and kill you, even though your salami appears to thwack the offending creature. However, when a bat is directly under your feet, you can knock it away every time, even though you swing the salami over your head. Other examples include bicycles that run you down when they are obviously not in your pathway and a light switch that you can turn on by merely jumping in the general area of the string.
Flat graphics and jerky animation do little to enhance this game's value. ALF, who looks more like a chubby teddy bear than a cute and cuddly alien, blinks in and out when he changes directions. The enemies have blinking problems as well, even when there is only one onscreen. Colors lack vibrancy and objects and locations, though recognizable, look like they belong on a game system from a previous generation, such as the Atari 5200 or ColecoVision.
As you walk, jump, and swim through this odd little game, there is a curious lack of audio, other than the tepid, repetitive musical score. There is no flutter of bat wings, no splashing water, no noise when you get hit with a weapon, and not much of anything else in the way of sound effects.
Obviously, ALF was hastily programmed on a limited budget. Some may say that the television show on which it is based is a weak sitcom with lame jokes galore, but a single episode offers more entertainment value than this poorly designed videogame.

I remember being greatly annoyed at the fact that you could buy the book from the store, only to have it restart your game. Good times, good times.

Poor Buffy! It must have been a hard life... lol
I had an ALF game for DOS back in the day. I remember booting it up a lot, but for some odd reason don't ever remember playing it. Does that mean it sucked??? lol
