After reading nothing but good things about the game, I finally decided to give it a shot. Good news is the game starts up fine, bad new is it doesn't get past the opening FMV. I get a loading screen, which leads to a black screen, then my desktop pops up for a second and then it goes right back to the black screen.

I've searched Google for a solution, but it's linked to threads from 5 years ago and naturally the links they provide to possible solutions are long gone. So anyone on here know of a solution to this?

The only place on teh intarwebs that has historically been involved in getting this game to work on modern PCs is ttlg.com, which is dedicated to all the old Looking Glass Studios games.

Their threads are probably the best information you're going to get.

If they can't help you, then you're going to have to use a Virtual PC or its equivalent to run the game.

Yeah, I had a copy of VMWare loaded up with Windows 98 just for this reason. Ran all the 90's PC games well. I have a few Win 98/95 install CDs floating around but it was just easier to find a preconfigured .vmx virtual machine of Win98 on the net.

Well by some small miracle the game has started to run normally, I had forgotten I turned on the compatibility mode before doing all the updates and turning it off seems to have done the trick.
