MK3 & Genesis / MD Multitap question

I have a question from a guy who is interested in buying a Megadrive multitap from me, and I don't know the answer. He says that Mortal Kombat 3 on the Megadrive has a 4-player mode which you can access by pressing A+C and start - something I had no idea of!

He wants to know which multitap you need to be able to play with all four players in this mode - the official Sega one or the E.A. one.

Can anyone fill me in? Irritatingly, I had a copy of MK3 very recently but it sold just a week or so ago, so I can't test myself to find out!

It's been awhile since I last tried both multitaps, but I'm pretty sure EA's multitap only works with EA's games. Yes, there is a four player mode in MK3, it's the endurance mode in the game. The mode is pretty quick with no breaks between matches, sorta like a survival mode. It's two player at a time but four people are able to participate. Each controller can choose where in the roster they wish to enter the lineup.

What I need to know for sure is whether the official Sega multitap will work for the 4-player mode on MK3 - I take it from what you're saying, that it does?

Reason being, the potential buyer wants to know for sure before he buys my multitap - which is the official Sega version. Which is fair enough - but I want to be 100% sure if I am going to tell him that it will work for MK3!

Yes, the official multitap will work. I had nothing but a near decade old memory of taking the Genesis to Peru and requiring it's use. But for verifiable information, I dug out from storage the Genesis, MK3, multitap and four controllers. Yes, the official multitap works for MK3's four player mode. Now to box it all up again.
