We always hear about the same amazing games. What about the "not so great" ones that are still fun to play. I'll start.

Victory Run on the TG-16. A pretty cool racing game with bright colors and unique gameplay. Old school scenery and day to night changes. I thought it would suck, but actually found it quite fun.

Arkanoid "DOH it Again" on the SNES. Cool graphics, better control than the NES version (due to the "speed boost" button), the ability to customize your own play fields. I am not sure why, but I have always liked this type of Breakout game. Probably one of the best of it's kind.

OK, let's hear some more....

I'll second Arkanoid Doh It Again... 2 player type C (vs.) is so much fun.

also one of the late release $9.99 psx titles, Mobile Light Force is great... pretty short (but what do you expect from a shooter), looks and plays a lot like gunbird 2. short, simple and fun.

i will third Arkanoid Doh it Again

there is a reason Mobile Light Force looks and plays like Gunbird 2, it is Gunbird 1.

My first choice for overlooked game is Sky Kid for NES its a fun shooter that scrolls from right to left (anyone know any other games that do this?).

Lots of overlooked puzzle games....Puzznic and Krazy Kreatures for NES, Mario's Picross for Game Boy, Mario's Super Picross and Kunio no Oden for Super Famicom.....

One of the first $10 PSX games, Sanvein. Man, I hated this game at first, then I gave it another try and I think it's really quite good for the $5 I paid. Once you get the hang of it, it's really fun in a Cannon Spike kind of way.

Of an League Bowling on the Neo. I think this is basically the same thing as Super Bowling SNES. I dont' know why I like this game, always have tho.

Mobile Light Force = Gunbird 1 ? i was totally unaware. is there actually a game titled "gunbird 1" ? and what system is it for? And how does mobile light force 2 for ps2 fit in?

also, another right to left scroller (well, it does both left to right AND right to left at various points of the game) is Steel Empire for Genesis... pretty easy game, but i had fun with it for a bit. another decent overlooked game

"Zombie Revenge" (Dreamcast) - It's no great shakes, but it's a fun arcade brawler that'll pass a few enjoyable hours in two-player mode.

Anyone remember Zombies Ate my Neighbors?

On the modern tip, myself and a buddy each pitched in a Lincoln and picked up a copy of "Bloodrayne" (on all 3 majors, this one GC). The first few levels made me wish I'd spent the money on Olde English, but about 20 minutes in you show up in some zombie-Nazi fortress and the fun begins. It's got this unlimited bullet-time feature, coupled with a code for excessive gore. We've had so much fun chopping limbs off of Nazis in slow-motion that we've just been playing the same level over and over.

Anyone remember Zombies Ate my Neighbors?

Grrrrrr-reat game. And the sequel (I'm not coming up with the name right now), while not nearly as interesting, was a good time as well.

I'm partial to the game Granstream Saga. It got panned in the reviews but it's one of my favorites.

Starflight on the Genesis too, anyone remember that?

For recent games, let me just point out Mad Maestro. It's only $10 new, and I think it's pretty damn good for that price.

Magic of Scherazade and Air Fortress for the NES also fall into this category.

Classic-era...maybe some latter-day Imagic titles like Laser Gates for the 2600, or Dracula for the Intellivision.

Recent stuff - I've got to second the motion for some of these PS1 twilight games. I'm a junkie for Pipe Dreams 3D, Sheep, or Builder's Block. I like Creatures, at least conceptually - playing it, however, depresses me. When your real cats interrupt your tamagotchi-style game to draw your attention to that fact that they've just run out of water, if you're me, you stop and think "This is stupid. I should be paying attention to my REAL creatures."

The more I hear about Turnabout, the higher it's climbing on my "buy next time (A) I see it and (B) I have money" list.

Disney's Tarzan for the N64. I really like this game!

I know of a couple.

Kirby's Dream Course for the Super NES. I know you were looking for "nothing great' but I couldn't help but list one of the all time most overlooked games. ***** all the way for what is a suprisingly perfect mesh between golf and puzzle (!). And the 2 player versus mode is simply a blast.

Kings of the Beach for the NES. A very fun beach volleyball game. Bump, set, spike, and then argue at the officials.

Spiritual Warfare for the NES. Don't look at me that way... as far as Zelda clones go, this one wasn't bad. Actually, it's more like Zelda meats Legacy of the Wizard. Still, it's pretty fun, biblical theme and all. Easily Color Dreams/Wisdom Tree's best game.

Parasol Stars for the TG16. Nobody every thinks of this when they give glowingly nostalgic accounts of the Bubble Bobble series. Get this one.

BTW, the name of the Zombies Ate my Neighbors sequel was Ghoul Patrol. Oddly enough, I liked the first one way better. Ghoul Patrol didn't do it for me.

MoS was a great game on the NES, I loved that! I wish I could find myself a copy

The best 'value' PSX game I've found is one done by Core, and it's one of my favorite old school games turned 3D.

Blaster Master: Blasting Again for the PSX is an awesome game, totally worth it, and it really keeps the feel of the original. You've got the SOPHIA tank again, which you can get in and out of to reach areas too big for the tank, and temples to explore. The maps scream old school, and everything from the enemies to the Story line hearken back to the old BM game on the NES. This is a great game treated right by one of the better developers out there. Frankly I'm amazed it's a value title at all.

This game ranks as the Excitebike of the PSX: Totally overlooked, and totally rad.

Mobile Light Force = Gunbird 1

Matt reviewed this game on our site:
http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/mobilelightforce.htm

There are so many games I could mention here. Hmm, how about something I've been "back into playing" recently: Xtreme Sports for Dreamcast. You know, typically when it's got the word "Xtreme" (if that's even a real word), I'm turned off. But this is such a cool game, technically a tri-athlon style game where you ride a bike, jump off and mount a hang glider, land and take the kayak, etc... all on the way to a final fihish line which may include a bungee jump! It sounds weird but the game is really solid.

Yes! I remember hearing about that but never saw screen shots!! I can't believe it was overlooked. The original BM is a classic, I love it to this day. BM2 on Genesis SUCKED. That probably killed interest. Is this Playstation BM 2D?????

You can read my topic about it here: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10386&highlight=mobile+light+force

Yes Virgina there is a Gunbird. It came out in the arcade, JPN PSX and JPN Saturn originally. BTW, if you look on the high score screen, you can still see Gunbird in the background. The second game (Gunbird 2) came out on Dreamcast and in the arcade.

MLF2 on the PS2 is a totally unrelated game released as Shikigami no Shiro in the arcade and JPN PS2 and JPN Xbox. Why XS games choose to make these games part of a series is unknown as they have nothing in common other than being shmups.

Is this Playstation BM 2D?????

No, it's 3D but it does a very good job sticking to the dynamics and the physics of the original game (the vehicle still jumps, you still need to get out of it to access certain areas, etc). I concur, and for a "value title" it's a must-buy.

Thanks for the plug Joe! Anyway, I love Tarzan Untamed for the various new consoles. Highly underrated little platformer with alot of variety between levels. Recommended....yes, review is on the way....

If you have an Xbox, I suggest GunValkyrie. It's challenging, gorgeous, and intricate. And it can be found for as little as $12 at some stores.

Blaster Master: Blasting Again is definitely worth the ten bucks you'll spend on it. It's a highly enjoyable update of the NES game, and in some ways it's even more fun than the original.

The first Mobile Light Force (Gunbird) is a bland translation of a lousy port of a decent shooter. Avoid it. Mobile Light Force 2 (the unrelated Shikigami no Shiro), however, is reasonably good, and shouldn't run you more than fifteen bucks.

Lastly, I recommend Ring of Red, an engrossing strategy title for the PS2. The battles can get excruciatingly long, but the unique combat and alternate-history setting keep it interesting.

Oh, this is simple: War of the Monsters. It's an extremely fun Rampage meets King of the Monsters hybrid that is much better than either individually.

Yeah, Gunvalkyrie. I like it very, very much.

Serious Sam, too (if you haven't played in on the computer).

Both seem to have quickly and quietly sunk out of view on the Xbox radar.
