I am in the process of buying a broken Spiderman the Arcade game. The guy says it needs some work, but I was researching the web a bit and I think that I may try to make this into a MAME cabinet. If the monitor works, would I be able to just use the existing one? This is a four player cabinet, can I just use the controls and stuff that is already on the cabinet? Do I have to buy all new parts like that? I hope that all I would need would be the right computer and hook it up. The spiderman game is going to cost me 200 bucks, I dont think thats too bad. Any help would be app. thanks:help:

As a Spider-Man owner, you need to see if it has a JAMMA harness on it. It should, but I have seen SEGA cabs go either way. That's step one.

Sweet, thanks for getting me started. I will get the game on either thurdsday or friday, then I will probably need more help. What do you think total cost should be to get a computer and the needed parts (J-Pac), ect to get this up and running?

Do you think 200 is too much for the cabinet with working monitor?

Word. I really didnt care about the cabinet so much, just thought that one would work well. Good monitor, according to the guy, and it is already set up for 4 players. After looking a bit, I may need to add more buttons for each player though I guess, but that site you gave has them too.

Yeah I was hoping to get a computer, barebones one for pretty cheap just to use for the mame. Anyone in the Pittsburgh area that want to get rid of a computer Let me know!

I THINK the ArcadeVGA lets you play arcade games on a set with VGA input (i.e. most any computer monitor)...

Got the cabinet yesterday, pretty nice shape.

Coin door missing parts, pretty much gutted. I will probably just buy a new one eventually.

Marquee is broken, looks like a pool ball went through it, I will get a new one eventually too.

The monitor wires go NOWHERE?? Is there a part missing? I took pics of all the parts that are inside the machine.

I dont think this is a Jamma Cab. I will do some research before I take it all out and apart. I also need to get a computer.

I am thinking about making a new control panel. Taking the one that is there, making an outline of it and then making a new one, and getting all new buttons and joy sticks. That would be easier then making these ones work right? There is a few missing parts from under the control cab for the joy sticks anyway.

Also, how many buttons should I get? I was thinking 4 per player, but I have seen up to eight per player. What kinda games would need eight buttons? I would 6 may be a good amount. Thoughts?

IIRC Spider-Man is JAMMA. You didn't take a picture of the harness so I can't say for 100%.

Yes, you're missing the remote adjustment board for your K7000 monitor. Whatever you do, don't power it up without it!

Your coin door is mostly intact, you could likely source the parts to reassemble it. Might have to switch to red instead of blue rejects, though.

I am deciding to get all new buttons and joysticks and make a new control panel. If I do that, it should not matter if it is a Jamma or not right, since I will be taking all the parts out anyway? Right?

I found this site:

http://www.arcadecab.com/CabinetPlans2/CabinetPlans2_Wiring_CP.html

Where it looks pretty easy to wire up new buttons and stuff and just get an IPAC and thats all. I will need an IPAC 4 though since I am going to have 4 players.

So if I gut the cab, does it matter if it is a Jamma or not?

Peale:: What would happen if I did turn it one with out that remote adjustment board???

One word: *poof*

More than one word: you might get away with it for a few seconds, but my first answer stands. You never want to turn on a monitor without it's adjustment board. Unless it's a digital adjustment board, and even then...

So, its probably junk then huh? I turned it on before I opened the back of the machine up, only had it on for a little bit though. The guy said the monitor was in working order and worth more than the 200 that I paid for the cabinet. Do you think the monitor is junk and that I should call the guy that sold it to me?

On another note, I dont actually have to buy a computer for a mame right? I can just add the needed parts right into the cab? Like this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Pentium-4-Socket-478-motherboard-up-to-2-8ghz_W0QQitemZ150263975143QQihZ005QQcategoryZ44943 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Like that would give me a good start, right? Then I have to add memory and video card, I PAC and stuff like that right?

thanks
Oh, I may be in the market for a new monitor!

You found that arcade on Craigslist didnt you? I saw a guy on there listing 15 or so arcades in my area.

Yup, he said the monitor worked perfectly but the game stopped working. I bet he sold me a broken monitor since it was missing that piece. I am getting kinda pissed now.

Ya I saw that listing myself and considered building a MAME machine but opted not too because I have never built one before and did not want to get myself into a money pit. Instead I bought an Atari Jaguar I have always wanted.

Best of luck to ya on the build. By the way, I am from Greensburg.

Cool. I am in Allison Park. I have never built one either, and I dont have money to waste. I am a substitute teacher with a three year old. I stay at home with her all summer and sub during the year. I can only buy things if I sell stuff to get money. Ebay and stuff. So if I paid 200 for this with a busted monitor, I may consider not building it. I dont know.

Is there anyway to test to see if it is junk?

I am also planning not to redo the whole cabinet, just the control board and joys and buttons.

Ok, where can I get one that would work with that monitor? Anyone here have one, or ebay or what? Thanks

If you are looking to get rid of the original Spiderman control panel, let me know I can take it off your hands.

Um, nope, trying to build a mame.

Um, nope, trying to build a mame.

Yes, but you could build a new CP and sell him the old one with the artwork.

And the number of buttons is directly corresponding to what games you want to play. JAMMA standard is three buttons per player. A lot of fighters use five or six. I wouldn't go more than six.

I was thinking 6 per player. I am gutting the cab so it wont matter if its a jamma cab right?
