Hello,

I'm talking about 8+ simultaneous systems. (without the Internet)

What is the console supporting a maximum of simultaneous players.
I heard Saturn NHL does 12 players. Has it been achieved and how is the gameplay? Saturn Bomberman does 10 that I know. Is there a soccer game with 12 players or more? Imagine 22 players on the same console :))) One player each :)

Genesis does? I heard it does 8 with J-League. True?
SNES does?

Does that mean Saturn is the console winner?

Can't you do 16 on a LAN with the 360 and maybe the original xbox? I think you can do a good number on the cube as well. I've done 10 on Saturn bomberman. You can only play 1 (or 2) boards like that though. The rest max out at 8. It is a blast though. A blast, haha.

You could have up to 18 Atari Lynx hooked up with ComLynx cables. However, I'm not sure if there ever was an 18 player game, or if you could actually find another 17 people with a Lynx.

I thought the sales of the Lynx totalled 16.

It does depend what you mean by simultaneous though. If you had 32 players around a screen, then management games such as Championship Manager could be played with 32 players max. It would be simultaneous, as everybody makes their decisions, then clicks "play week's fixtures".

But not truly what you meant, I guess.

A total of 16 Jaguars can be linked together for a very select number of games. i believe doom is among that select few though. i believe battlesphere gold also supports 16 players, im not sure if you can do this with just jaglinks or if you need catboxes, and JUGS. either way cool stuff if you can find all the hardware and people who actually play jaguar games.

Street Racer for the Sega Saturn supports 8-player splitscreen!!!

I used to own the PAL version but only ever tried 4-player splitscreen.

Faceball 2000 for the Game Boy somehow supports 16-player games.
Double Dribble: The Playoff Edition for the Genesis supports 8 players.

There were actually quite a few Lynx games that supported 8 players (probably not far off from the number of Gameboy games that supported 4 players), but as far as I know, no game supported more than that. In reality, I don't think there was any inherent limit to the number of Lynx's you could hook together... though cable loss and signal timing would cause trouble at some point, which is probably why they stopped at 8. With clever programming, I'm sure a far higher number would be possible.

According to Wikipedia, this requires special hardware and cables, which, to my knowledge, were never released... so you're stuck with only 4-players unless you can figure it out. The original ST game that Faceball was based on did 16-player via MIDI cables... I wonder if the "special hardware" was just a MIDI adaptor for the Gameboy?

OMG. I wanna see that!

Thx about your replies about the Jaguars and Game Boy and Lynx... but i have no idea how I can ever be able to play those setups. Interesting though that is feasible in theory. Getting 12 Saturn controllers is certainly easier than 16 gameboys + the cables.

I will try the doable in practice and concentrate in Single Console Multiplayer games (no LAN, no Hooks up).

From the reply, I guess Saturn is king in this category, followed by Genesis.

Double Dribble: The Playoff Edition for Genesis
Bomberman (10 OMG), NHL, Street Racer on Saturn

Wasn't just for the saturn either, the SNES version had it too. Made Mario Kart's 4 player splitscreen for the superiorly powerful N64 seem weak.

The DS version of Puyo Pop Fever supports 8 simultaneous players with one copy of the game (and 8 DS systems).

Does anyone know of anything on 3DO? I would think that with the daisy-chaining controllers, it would have a few many-player games, but I can't think of any.

Wow, that has to be nice and comfortable for all involved to be sharing a controller with someone else at the same time. It's annoying enough to have to pass a controller to someone else in turn based games.

nearly all the micro machines games on The Genesis, allowed you to play with 8 players simul. They had the J-Cart, so no multitap needed, and you have to share a pad with someone else.

Games like Clue on the genesis says they support 6 players, but only support input from 2 controllers.(multitap not supported at all, just tested it) These two have to be shared.

has anyone a youtube link with 12 saturn controllers hooked up? this must look awesome. A review of the gameplay is major plus too.
