Not much can satisfy like a direct hit to a 'grey'.. then watching as it drops to the ground, shrieking in defeat.

I personally was never a big fan of X-Com: UFO Defense.

Actually I don't think I ever played a Microprose game I liked.

It's one of those games that I have yet to play, but hear it mentioned now and again. Will need to play it soon...

By the way, Paradroid for the Commodore 64 is the greatest game ever made. ;)

I'll be honest, I've never been much of a PC gamer- so I don't know much about this game... but I did a little research and it looks like something I could get into. I'll have to try and track it down.

For anyone who is clueless like me- IGN put it at the top of their Best PC games of all time list.

Deus Ex for PC is definitely on my personal top of the game heap, but X-Com is in my top five.

There is also a PSX version that is tough to use with the controller, but I think it's compatible with the PSX mouse, which would be much preferred. Its also a fairly rare game and difficult to get...but it's a very faithful translation of the DOS classic.

I loved that game when it came out... couldn't keep me off it.

For $5 you can get it via Steam and it's compatible with XP/Vista. I paid, downloaded it... and can't figure out WTF to do! I don't remember how to play the game at all haha

It may be one of the greatest Strategy games of all time, definitely in the top 5 of my personal all time greatest PC games of all time.

Xcom rules. Go play it.

Xcom, Fallout, Doom, Duke3d, Daggerfall. That would be my top 5 PC games of old.

I could never get into the game but my brothers loved it.

And wasn't there a huge long thread on this not too long ago?

-Edit
I think this is the thread I was thinking of but it's not as long as I remember.

Maybe all the pictures made it seem longer.

Game looks really crappy, :eek 2:.

If you are into games like this, then yeah give yourself a pat on the back. I however am not and am entitled to my own opinion. I will say that I have not personally played this but will tell you that I hate games that are SIM style.

Paradroid is awesome and relatively unknown and I would rank it along with X-com but they really aren't competing with each other...

I haven't been able to get into X-com but I spent hours watching a friend play it and he was having a great time. Has a bit of a learning curve...

I totally agree with you, Paradroid 90 is my favorite game ever and UFO is right up there as well. So there's a good chance that if you liked Paradroid, you'll like this game here too.

The original was relased for C64, the 1990 remake for Amiga and Atari ST.

How does the playstation version stack up? I know I have a loose copy of this game some where, but I have not played it. I picked it up over 12 years ago and forgot I had it until I ran across a few loose Playstations games in my closet. This game and Poy Poy were the only ones worth mentioning.

Yes it is compatible with the PSX mouse. I would not even play it without that.

Still my Favorite of all time and the first PC game where I learned not to name the troops after family and friends as they died to quickly....

I LOVED the missle launcher with programmable flight path and making it got up and around 3 levels of a ship to hit the command section and the screams of the aliens......

I too have the PS1 version that I need to dig out so I can see how it plays on my PSP via PS3.

While I haven't played the PC original, I can tell you the Playstation version plays quite well, while remaining extremely complex and engaging. As long as you don't have any issue with dealing with tons of menus, and paying attention to all the little details the come with combating an alien menace, base building, economy management, and turn based combat, you'll love it.

Great game, definitely a title I need to get back in my possession.

Definately in my top 5 PC Games of all time. Probably top 10 or so games ever. I wish the subsequent sequels wouldn't have tarnished the brands reputation. Terror from the Deep was one of the hardest games I've ever played.

Top PC Games (Pre 2000):

Civ 2
Doom
XCom
Tie Fighter
Sim City 2000

I havnt played the PSX version much myself, but my brother used to play it to death [5+ hour marathons] back in the late 90's [man does time fly]. Often I would watch him play, and while its not my type of game as it doesnt seem to end... It was rather fun to watch.

My only comment on how good of a port it is, is something i know almost all PSX ports have that thier PC brethern generally do not - And that is long load times.

From watching him play, I can tell you that after about 20-30 minutes in a 'field' fighting..the load times where the CPU would be moving around would vary from 1-3 minutes at times. And keep in mind, your turns could be done in about 30 seconds usually...So, 30 seconds for you. 1-3 minutes for the CPU.

PC version, I bet doesnt have that...As I know the Civ games on PC lacked long load times, yet the PSX version was asinine [psx Civ2 = 5 minute waits once you hit 1200ad or so] same with other ports.

So long story short...PSX = Load times. Pc = none. Beyond that they are the same.

I am 1 of the wierd ones that liked Terror from the Deep more than UFO Defense.

X-com in general (UD/TFTD/Apocolypse) ranked in top 3, maybe top 2 for me (Wing Commander:Privateer and the WC series is 1 for me).

if we did the ranking:
1.) WC: Privateer/WC Series
2.) X-Com:TFTD/X-Com series
3.) Tie-Fighter/Star Wars Space Flight game series (This includes Star Wars Galaxies for me. Anybody that has done space in Star Wars Galaxies can vouch for how awesome it is!)

Not a huge fan of these types of games, but have to respect it for being a great game of its type. I think that any game of all time depends on what a person grows up with, plays alot, type of game they are into. I am a console gamer first, PC gamer a distant second. With that being said, my top 5 would be more console based/flight sim based. Not in my top 5.

I just found out you can get all four games for $15 over Steam...

And Mexico's locked out from purchasing the game.

In short: Go to hell, Valve.
