My mom is on a mission to get a job writing for some... any... video game magizine. She's mucho-grande pissed off at the mags she gets in the mail (EGM, Nintendo Power, Game Informer, and Tips & Tricks).

On EGM: "They wouldn't know a good game if it bit them in the ass."

On Nintendo Power "Only reason I still get them is because everytime I want a Player's Guide for a Cube or GBA game, I tack on another year to my subscription (lol, at this point I think it's set to expire sometime in the 24th Centry). If they ever gave a 1st party game a good review, I think I would vomit blood in suprise." (And yes, she knows the NP is a Nintendo propaganda mag).

On Game Informer: "Only reason I get it is because it came with the Gamestop card."

On Tips & Tricks: "I don't think the columns they have are big enough, and what's the point in dedicating an entire two page spread every month to a game that is already almost a year old?" (In reference to Animal Crossing.)

I think she once applied to work at Nintendo when we all moved up to Washington, but she never heard back from them. She's pretty dang good at games although she's decidedly old school in her tastes (She's 55 years old though, unlike most of the us here she's lived through the entire video game era). She's not a big fan of 3-D so she would get along just fine with most of the people here. Although she did enjoy Wind Waker and Metroid Prime believe it or not. But now she wants to write reviews for a gaming mag (despite no professional or even amature writing experience). So... anyone have advice for her?

Hope your Mom gets a job. Would be a neat point of view.

We're doing the "video game mom" perspective. Perhaps you missed it.

Monique's second column, a "1980's Expose" in issue #51 (which will be shipped in the next 2 weeks) is really awesome. I've always preferred a mature point-of view from the atypical gamer. Hope your mom lands something and sorry she doesn't like Tips & Tricks, I do my best every month.

She likes your column but her only concerns are (1) it's not long enough and (2) she wants it to cover more obscure type of game items (controllers, figures, books, etc).

I have no problem with your column. Loved the PSX expose' from last week.

Yeah but does she understand that the demographic of newsstand video game magazines are 13-15 year old boys? I never thought the Collector's Closet experiment would go beyond 3 months let alone 2 years. I'm doing my best to trickle vintage information to our gaming youth but there's a definite line drawn as to how much or how obscure that column can be.

When I drift into obscurities too deeply or for too long I'm reminded of the demographic. Our forum here has many exceptions to the rule, fortunately!

Thank ya! It's fun to do and the people running the magaznie are just terrific. Eventually I'll get a column in on TIME, too.

That's DOCTOR Packrat to you, young man! "I'm a PHD... of Gaming!"

The boss wasn't crazy about that featurette. To be honest I've pretty much forgotten about it untl just now. I sense a "Bring Back the Rat" rally uprising.
