When I went to SakuraCon (an anime convention held in Seattle every year) they had an arcade set up with free games, including Para Para Paradise, Guitar Freaks, and DDR Extreme. There was a DDR competition which drew out some incredible players, a few of which were freestyle players.

If you haven't seen it, freestyle players do some crazy stuff in DDR. They standing on left and down, they'll drop to their knees and use them to hit up and right, they'll spin around hitting up left right down, they'll bend backwards while standing on up and right and hit left and down with they're hands while kicking out.

Can anybody here do this? And if so, where and how did you learn it? It really makes the player look cool while they are playing.

Some friends and I do a few free style things. We've been trying to think of a routine for a while. I'm still quite new to DDR, but I've been learning damn fast. I've been noticing things I could throw in to a song if I play it so many times.

Basically just take a song you like and figure out stuff to do with it. After you've been playing for awhile and you can do stuff like the spins in Break Down! you start to see groups of steps a certain way. For example, in PARANOiA (the original, on Heavy) you can spin in circles for almost the entire song.

Yeah, I got REALLY dizzy playing Holic (light) last night. I do a lot of freestyling, and I've been in a few competitions, but I've never placed (because I suck).

Well, granted, I've seen players worse than me, but my repetoire is limited to spins, knee drops, and hand plants, and I can't do any REAL dancing to save my life.

I can do a little freestyling (if you can call it that). Last time I did a knee drop though I had trouble getting through the rest of the song lol. I mostly just do a lot of slides and parts sideways, I'm not that good a player.

I just watched other people, trying to mimic some of the things they did until I could get my own routine together.

Lemme go grab my two freestyle vids from the tournies I've been to.

Edit: I could only find one of the two... :(

Here I am preforming "Jam Jam Reggae", most of this FS was completely improv, but some of it was planned.
