Play-Asia have these new MD clone machines (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-6z-49-en-70-2sf4.html) available. However, these are officially licensed by AtGames and have 20 games built in. They look absolutely tiny going by the size of the cart slot.

Hmm, Interesting. I wonder how valid anything "licensed" is when it comes from China, however. There is a link off that page to the "Sega Mega Drive Portable Video Game Player" by the same company; and it's a Nomad clone.

Cool stuff, as I've actually been considering collecting clone systems for awhile now, save for they are proliferating faster than coked-up bunnies.

ooh look at that a sleek decent looking clone system! smaller than the genny 3 too id be interested at seeing how thing thing reacted to having a 32x shoved into it. i think theres a decent chance it's legit seeing as thats the same damned rom set you see in all the licensed plug and play controller style clones almost to a t. if anyone gets one id love to see some pics of the inside of this thing ;).

Maybe it's just me but I really don't see why a Genesis/Mega-Drive clone would be all that great when you can get an original for a few bucks. Maybe I'm missing something.

Interesting indeed.

I've seen Famiclones in that style shell.

Somehow I doubt they're "licensed", but they're probably about as good as the Genesis / Mega Drive clones on the market these days. (And those are generally pretty good!)

whoa whoa your thinking practically. they stopped making the genesis years ago anything new for genesis will generate hype. i almost certainly won't end up owning this as i already have 2 sega genesis systems though it still manages to excite me for some reason. now what i would love to see is a 32x clone, or a sega cd clone (a new one, wondermega, cdx, aiwa boombox, laseractice, and xeye don't count :P). sure you can get the real deal for $5 BUT you could be the only kid on the block with 300 bootleg consoles for $30 a pop that do the same thing!!!

I most certainly resemble that last remark. LOL

If I were to purchase one of these clone systems, I think I'd be getting it for it's ability to play Mega Drive cartridges more than anything else.

I seriously doubt there'd be a unit that would be an all-in-one Genesis/Mega Drive with 32X tech built-in, but if there were, I'd be all over that one. As long as it's stable. But the 32X had all sorts of custom hardware and oddball chips inside it, unlike the Genesis/MD, which was mostly off-the-shelf parts. It would be so nice if it were to come to pass, but it's not likely.

Yup.

And every time somebody says "I wonder if the 32X will work in this Genesis/MD clone?" they all seem to totally forget that these clones don't EVER have the cylindrical metal multi-pin AV-input/output necessary for the 32X to run correctly on a Genesis/MD/CDX system.

Do you really need an adapter to play Mega Drive games on a Genesis? I've got some Japanese MD game I bought at a flea market (I think it's called Granada?) and it worked fine on my Genny. I've also got an adapter, but haven't needed it since I don't come across imported MD games too often.

I don't see any reason to doubt AtGames' claim to an official Sega license. If you check their website, there's a joint press release laying out the whole arrangement. And Sega has almost always been willing to sell license rights to their older games anyway. I remember back in the Dreamcast days, a company that was well known for otherwise making pirate Famiclones, sold a Mega Drive in a contorller system with about 20 games on it and that was definitely licensed since Sega actually offered it through D-Driect in Japan for a while. Then there's things like the Radica plug & play systems, the recent Coleco/Playpal SMS based handheld and so on. So I'm pretty sure AtGames as a legitimate Sega license.

I don't particularly see the attraction of this clone, though, anyway. I love clone hardware, but only when it offers something new or unique, especially an interesting design or even portability (with a cartridge port, though, please). Something more than just small (but not even all that small anyway, considering that the Mega Drive add-on cartridge for the OneStation is about the size of GBA cartridge and contains all the same hardware as this unit--except the full size cartridge port, of course). Even if they'd just modeled it to look like the original Mega Drive, but chibi, that would have probably won me over, but this thing looks pretty blah.

I want a Genesis in a Dreamcast controller, with 30 built in games and and a cartridge port and 3" screen as well as TV out.

...word is bondage...

It looks pretty sweet, and has a nice assortment of games, but the price is a bit steep.

I'm still waiting for a SNES+Genesis combo system.

I was suspect due to the fact that those exact shells were used for UN-licensed Famiclones a year or so back.

I suppose Sega has been doing this sort of thing for years since technically the Genesis 3 was a "clone" developed and manufactured by Majesco.

I have a box of roughly 10 model 2 Genesis consoles. I really don't need this.
