And, no. I have no insurance on my videogames or arcade games above and beyond my normal home owner's insurance.

i'm curious as to what the battle would be like with a homeowners insurance company if something happened to a game collection...

I'm sure it'd be handled like most other objects of possession.

As of the moment, no insurance. I've thought about it and maybe in the future I would get a bulk coverage for everything significant in the house when I'm in my own place, but not just for games. I can't see a reason to include games like Duck Hunt/Mario in a plan when it'll just cost you extra when it's so commonly found and not worth the hassle.

Really thinking about it, I can only see insuring a large enough fraction of your collections value to give you some money to kick start the collection all over again. :P

I just have my homeowners insurance. Though I have started inventorying and taking pictures of my collection, just for save keeping.

I have two renter's insurance policies. One for the apartment and my stuff. Then one seperate one for my collection. I had to log this one as a collection insurance policy.

Mine is insured by the bank of 1 2 P, in the name of the holy Prophet TMSAD: "Touch My Shit and Die". For over 10 years now this prophet has failed to let me down, just as long as he gets a ritual sacrifice every 24 months.

I find the odds of it being stolen or whatever very, very small. And it's not worth that much, a few thousand at most.

I have home contents insurance. I'd probably lie & give them a v long list of Xbox /PS3 titles if my classic games got stolen in a burglary. They'd be unable to replace my cartridge games & systems (i.e the bulk of my collection) & they'd probably give me rubbish money in place of them, though Im not sure. Then again they'd probably want a few receipts if I gave them a big list of Xbox/PS3 games.

I've had a load of stuff stolen, before I started collecting video games (though I had a PS2 & some games, which were taken) & had my stuff insured, it's a big hassle. Cartridge Games & things like Records etc are hard to shift & quite bulky, they'd much more likely take the modern systems & DVD's, TV's etc., depends on how the "job" went down.

I did a general estimate on my own and inflated it. Then you get a seperate policy on what you want to insure taking pictures of every item then you put the disc in your bank's saftey deposit box. My insurance company then takes the ebay average minus 15% of the total items. Because there is no official game appraiser, that's how they do it.

I phoned my home insurance company to see if my Candy Cabs were covered. Apparently they are, but I think I should enquire further. I mean, they could be replaced with other Candys, but they're not the most easily obtainable things in the world. It's some of the PCBs that are harder to replace than anything.

My Homeowners insurance covers them... that and my uber list of what I own, that is kept with me in some way/shape/form at all times. Not exact proof, but between that and pictures (that are posted online incase my computer is swiped) i'm mostly good to go.

Only as part of the home contents. But that insurance covers a total up to 35,000 GBP and single items of no more than 1,500 GBP value which is everything bar one or two bits in the entire house. Once ALL of my collection is there however, I might look to bump the value up a little...

Mine's insured for about $50,000. Got it insured about 6 months ago when I realized how devastated I'd be if I lost it all in a fire.

-side story-
One side of my toaster doesn't work properly. It still 'toasts', but you have to pop up the toast manually, as it won't do it once it is ready. It's been like this for 5 years or so... no big deal.

Last night, my girlfriend and I are in my bedroom, and my dad is in his bedroom. I say to my girlfriend, "Hey, do you smell burnt toast?" We waved it off as 'probably nothing' as we knew there was nobody downstairs. Next thing you know, the smoke alarm goes off, and our ENTIRE house was covered in smoke. I ran downstairs and found that somebody put some bread in the toaster, and left it there.

Which, begs the question... who the hell puts toast in a toaster and just leaves it there?

Probably my biggest scare of my collection being burnt to the ground. I said to my dad, "Christ, you're going to burn down my collection, here"

Now, the next day, my house still reeks of smoke.

My grandfather was a fireman for like 40 years and he's always said that shitty toasters cause more house fires than basically everything else combined. Apparently a lot of the fires started when it wasn't even in the process of toasting. I'd definitely replace it if I were you. They're like $15 for a good one.
