Hello everyone,
I just received a Gamecube/N64/SNES RGB-SCART cable in the mail today. It is one of the rare ones with audio out so sound can be sent to a TV/stereo. I attached it to a SCART-YUV transcoder and attached the 3 component cables to my TV. I played Super Mario World and Super Ghouls N Ghosts and they look excellent! I have not tried true RGB yet, because it is too much of a hassle for us in the US. Has anyone else tried this setup besides me? Let me know.

For Component Video on the SNES you will need:
1. SNES-1 console w/RGB capability
2. SCART cable for GC/N64/SNES(the one with RCA jacks for audio out)
3. SCART-YUV transcoder(can be had for $60 nowadays.)
4. TV with component video inputs(duh)

Definitely awesome; I've thought about it, but it never seemed worth it on on such an old console.

My N64, however, is a completely different story, since it just looks plain silly on an HDTV. Would I be able to use the same type of setup for a '64? I think they're the same kind of video/audio out, right?

You'll need to mod the N64 for RGB:

that looks quite a bit less than fun, and the tutorial isn't exactly the best. Maybe I should just settle for an s-video cable...?

No matter what, pretty much anything (except, of course, RF) is better than composite >.<;;

Anyway. I didn't mean to entirely hijack this thread...

*back on topic*

This will not work with the mini-model SNES, I take it? *dusts off the larger one from the closet.*

The SNES in Component does look good, but it is not a huge jump from S-Video. The most noticeable difference is that reds are a bit clearer and more defined. As for the N64, I will do the RGB mod on my console(under the board) and see how it does. If it is too dark, I will try the internal amplifier. I would love to see Goldeneye in component provided the signal is not too weak.

Using Scart(RGB) to Y-U-V converters is a good idea, many people has done it for quite a while for other systems as well, including Sega's ....Unfortunately, these transcoders do not have the same results for everyone....Some Tv models (or resolutions), may or may not like the signals.....It can be fix....These transcoders usually have internal pots to amplified or adjust the output signals, but the transcoder unit itself needs to be taken apart to get access to them, which may result into voiding any guarantee.

I just finished the RGB mod for the N64 as described on various sites. Upon turning on my system, the picture was too dark as most people have said. However, I performed the internal amp mod an hour later and the results are quite good. There is some occasional interference, but it is infrequent(at least on my system). Overall, I would recommend anyone doing the RGB mod provided you perform the internal amp as well.
