OK ... so I would like to draw up the definitive list of multi-tap compatible games for the Genesis / Megadrive. All games included, PAL/NTSC/Japansese/Korean/Brazilian/Chinese, whatever. If you can have more than two players, and it needs a multitap to do so then it goes on the list. I'd also like to know which multitap the game uses - the official Sega one or the E.A. one. I will kick off with the few that I know, and will update this post as others are confirmed to me. So let's go! ...

What about J-Carts, the Codemasters' games with 2 pad ports built into the cart? It's multiplayer without the multi-tap. There's apparently only 6 anyway:

I think this is a pretty comprehensive list. Hope it helps. Might be a couple of the US or Japanese releases missing, but definitely all the European releases as I've checked them all.

Thanks all, especially Tony!

Have updated the list - pretty comprehensive there Tony .. but you do need to add Mortal Kombat 3 to the Sega Tap list, there is a secret 4-player tournament mode in there that requires a multitap - I have confirmed that it works with the Sega Tap, not tested with the E.A. one yet though.

Barclay Shut Up & Jam 2 is missing from the Sega Tap list.

Didn't know about Mortal Kombat 3 it not mentioned on the box or in the instructions for the european release. What about Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3? Does that have the same mode? i can't check as I don't have the game anymore.

I had the EA 4-WAY Play back then, and other than Madden and NHL, we used it all the time for General Chaos, which was an addicting game. Ironically, the fact that it only worked on EA games and the SEGA one didn't work on EA games really sent me over the edge in annoyance with SEGA. Since I didn't buy the 32X or SegaCD, and there really were few games on either that weren't on the Genesis, I never paid them much mind. But that multi-tap thing really annoyed me. Stopped buying any Genesis games right after that, and played the SNES fairly exclusively (by myself) from then on.

Added Barclay SUAJ2.

I don't know about UMK3 - the only reason I know about MK3 is because some Russian guy asked me a question about it when I was selling a multitap on Ebay, and I did some investigation here (irritatingly I had just sold a copy of MK3, otherwise I could have tested it myself!).

If I get a copy of UMK3 in then I will try it out, but I am not aware of a similar code for UMK3. THere might be though.

I can tell you that I've used the Sega multitap to play both General Chaos and Gauntlet IV.

OK, I've added General Chaos and Gauntlet IV into the official Sega multitap list as well now. Thanks!

I can tell you that I've used the Sega multitap to play both General Chaos and Gauntlet IV.Blah! Information I could have used......in 1994! Thanks though. See this is how we were pre-Internet, governed by superstitions, rampant rumors, lies, fibs, tall tales and mish mosh.

Aha! Just discovered a new fact ... you can use a multitap with Super Skidmarks, in addition to the two ports on the J-Cart, and can have a 6-player game! Just when you think you know everything about something ....

Didn't know NBA Hangtime had multitap support. That's one of my favorite multiplayer games on the N64.

Doesn't Columns III support multi-tap?

Not a multi tap game but I think it should be noted as a cool multiplayer.

Zero Tolerance.

It is a one player game by itself. But you can buy or make a system link cable (a controller plug on each end wired corectly , then plugged into the player 2 port).

Its a fun and unique first person 3d shooter.
