I think the problem with VI is that it was never fully translated and the project stopped at 90% in or something like that, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, the DQ6 fan translation has some serious bugs that will cause the game to freeze every time (for instance, trying to back out of the equip menu). And it isn't fully translated, though it is good enough to get through the game. I would suggest waiting until the DS remake comes out. As it is, I don't know of anyone who has made a custom cart with DQ6 on it. The first thing to get towards this goal, though, is to find out what PCB type DQ6 uses so that someone can search for a good donor cart. From there, things get easier.

Nice to know. Wish there was a finished ROM :( There anything else REALLY good worth putting on a cart? Those were the two I really wanted to play but if there are any other recommendations....

Secret of Mana 2 and Starfox 2 are worth having on cartridge. There is a good collection of reviews of translations and hacks on romhacking.net, probably the best place to look if you need any more ideas.

I'll happily put together a Dragon Quest 6 cart for you if you can live with the crashing problems. Probably be a bit more than $50 though.

Here's the ones I've tried so far:

Seiken Densetsu 3 is easily the best game in the Mana series
Rudra no Hihou is an excellent Final Fantasy style RPG with a really interesting magic system.
Bahamut Lagoon is also a really fun tactics RPG
Tales of Phantasia is really well done but can be easily found on the GBA
Live-a-Live is an RPG that deserved to stay in Japan, I'd skip that one

Haven't had a chance to try out Der Langrisser yet but I'm pretty sure I'll love it being that I was a big Warsong fan.

The parts alone for a DQ6 cart is almost $50. It uses 8 meg chips, which are pretty expensive, and it requires 4 of them.

Whoa, why so much for a Tales of Abyss guide? Is it a rare guide or something? I actually have one, though it's at my parent's place. It would be awhile before I could get it, and I don't think I want to sell it anyway.

Also, MadTitan is working on a StarFox 2 and Secret of Mana 2 repro if you ever decide you want those two games.

Tales From the Abyss is strangely hard to find at the moment. I'm sure it'll die off later, but I wanted to play the game without running back and forth to the PC every 20 minutes.

Added Ico to my wanted list...anyone got a spare Ico to dump!
