IMHO, short of Chrono Trigger (and that is a VERY short) that is the best SNES title and one of the greatest RPGs ever made. You will not be disappointed.

It's a decently long game. However it all depends on how long you're behind the controller. I can tell you that it's a game you'll find difficult to put down.
Here's a review for your reading pleasure http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/secretofmana/Secret_of_Mana.html

Honestly, the game is great. But the best way to experience it is to get two other people to play with you. It really really helps. And not even just because playing with other people is always awesome but also because the game's A.I. is some of the dumbest I've ever seen. And if you play alone you'll find yourself dying at times you could have easily survived had a real human being been controlling one of the other characters.
Also you might find yourself dying early on simply because you haven't gotten used to the attack system. Because it plays very Zelda-esque you'll find yourself wanting to just go apeshit on everything and the whole recharge system will feel awkward and stupidly restrictive.

If you asked 100 people, probably 97 would say its a great game. There are a couple things I don't like about it like such as leveling up spells by use, starts very slow, having limited characters, the knockdown time after hitting an enemy, and I think the story is a bit basic. However the game has great graphics, a cool control system, is player dependent, cool bosses, is somewhat difficult, and isn't super long. If you go on youtube, there are several people that have a play by play of the entire game. If you like games like Zelda, but always wanted more rpg theme's in it, you'll love Mana.

Get 2 other people to play it with you, you will thank me later.

Best advice I can give:
1) Insert the game pak into your Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
2) Press the 'power' button.
The rest will take care of itself.

I don't get why people do this. Dude, you HAVE THE GAME. Is it really so much trouble to stick it in your SNES and give it a try? What, do you only play games everyone else likes or something?

I actually have to agree with James, this is kind of a pointless thread. If it was a little more geared towards talking about the game beyond, "Yes, you should play it, it's great." then okay. But asking us to reinforce the idea of you playing a game you already have, are excited about, and already intend to play is a little silly.
Here's a parallel based around food:
"OMG should I eat food, today? How good is food? Is food short? Are there any reviews of food I can read?"
That said, I think you should play the game, AND eat food.

The guy is just excited about playing one of the classics. He just got a really good classic game and is interested in how everyone else ended up liking it. He got really good information about playing with a couple of friends. Doesnt sound like a waste to me. I dont see the value in judging people's posts.
"Video Game player buys a new game and is excited. He shares this excitement and asks for other players' opinions. Player gets feedback."
Seems about right for a video game message board.

You mean "Oh boy, a summer of Nintendo and fun!" And don't forget, after you finish the game you can play the translated Seiken Densetsu 3 ROM, the sequel to Secret of Mana. (SoM was Seiken Densetsu 2 in Japan) That was a great game as well.

Yeah, this is actually what I was getting at with my first reply, but in a nicer way. :)
I don't think this thread is perfect for a classic gaming board. He could have improved the quality of it just by playing the game for 20 minutes, and then giving us his impressions. Even so, Secret of Mana is hardly an undiscovered game, and I'm sure it's been discussed to death. But I could be wrong.

Well that makes no sense. You don't "Locke" a thread, you "lock" it. He's trying to act smart using that picture and it's not even applicable. That aside from the fact that posting "in before lock" just for the sake of it is beyond lame.

I played that ROM when I was 13 or so, when that chick flashed her butt I was like "WHAT THE HELL!!!"

One of the members here is working on a repro of Secret of Mana 2, so if you're like me and hate playing console games with a keyboard on a computer then you're in luck. He's still got a few bugs to work out, but from what I understand it shouldn't be long.

Why would you use a keyboard to play ROMs? You can buy a PS2/PSX to USB adapter at Radio Shack for $10. That's what I've been using for the past 7 years or so.
