i went by gamestop yesterday and they had an original xbox wireless networking adapter for $10. i thought it was a decent deal. the only problem was there was no power cord with it. i went ahead and got it thinking that i had something at home that would fit it. however, i dont.
does anyone here know of a website or place i can go to in order to buy a replacement ac adapter for the original xbox broadband wireless networking adapter?
thanks in advance.

just go to radio shack and get a generic one.
I've got the same Xbox wireless adapter you're talking about. The specs off the power supply are:
Input: 120VAC 60Hz 13W
Output: 60VDC 1.0A
Hope that helps.

I had the exact same problem a couple years ago with one I found at Goodwill. Everything was there except for the power supply. I just called up MS and just told them it shorted out on me. They asked for the adapter serial number, verified that it wasn't already registered under someone else (I lucked out on that) and they sent me a brand new wireless adapter kit in the mail.
They might not be able to do that now since the original Xbox broadband adapters are probably out of production, but you can still try and see.

i called MS and of course they couldnt help me. i also went by the local radio shack and saw several ac adapters but was unsure of what to get. i couldnt find anything that had the exact same input/output as the original ac adapter.
anyway, most of the ac adapters i saw gave like a range for the input. i'm not real savvy with electronics and i just wasnt sure which one would be safe and wouldnt blow a fuse or something.
any ideas?

Go back to Radio Shack.
Bring the adapter.
Radio Shack sells universial AC/DC adapters of varying voltage/amperage with interchangeable input/output pins.
They should have a mess of open ones to test-fit, find somebody who works there (and knows what they're doing) to help you out.
I do it all the time when I find something that needs an AC/DC adapter.
The original wireless adapter is a rebranded D-Link DGL-3420. Try finding an AC adapter for that ... heck, you could probably pick up a complete used DGL-3420 for the price of a replacement AC adapter.

thanks guys, i'll try to go back to radio shack first with the wireless adapter and see if they can help... and thanks so much for letting me know that its just a rebranded DGL 3420, i'm sure i can just probably get a replacement adapter for that if all else fails.

When I was looking around for an adapter for mine right after I got it, I could have sworn that some game console power supply worked with it. I can't remember which one, but it could have been a Genesis, NES, PStwo, or TG-16. Not 100% positive on that though.

ok, i went by walmart to pick up some things and found a bunch of universal ac adapters. you can set the voltage. however, i'm a little unsure on which voltage to set it on. so far, i have it set on 6V and it seems to be working. it has settings for 3V, 4.5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V, and 12V. anyway, this was cheaper than the ones i saw at radioshack.

It should actually say right near the adaptor port what voltage it needs. 6volt sounds right.

Yep...and if they're anything like the RS we have in town here, if they don't have the cord in stock, they can make it for you. Costs a bit more...but you'll know it works.

Not to hijack the thread, but are the original Xbox wireless adapters compatible with the 360? My nephew just got a 360 and he's saving for the $100 360 wireless adapter. If I happen to see one of these while I'm out and it's compatible I'll pick it up for him.

Sort of. The official Xbox 360 adapter is a USB device that you can configure from the Dashboard. The original Xbox adapter is just an Ethernet-to-wireless converter, basically, which could be configured from the original Xbox.
I assume you could also configure it from a PC using the D-Link utilities for the DGL-3420. Once it is configured, you can connect it to ANY Ethernet device, including the Xbox 360, and *boom* ... wireless.

No worries, it's completely compatible.
If you use it on a 360, the 360 will recognize it and you can configure it right in the dashboard. I used it for over a year like that without any issues.

actually one of the reasons i picked up the original xbox adapter was so i could also use it with my 360 eventually. right now its connected to my original xbox and is working great. but we live in a small apt. and are thinking about moving within the next year or so.
i figured when my wife and i do move, we'll have a bigger house (our apt is really small) and i'll get an HD for my future living room and use the xbox wireless adapter for it so i dont have to run an ethernet cord across the floor.
btw, the replacement ac adapter still seems to be working fine.
