I just recently made one using art from the Cover Project, I definitely like the way it looks on my shelf.

It looks good. I would have cut off that part which isn't used to hold the cart and also include the Sega logo and Seal of Quality on the box art.

Yeah, I wanted the cover to have that too, but unfortunately I have zero photoshop skills so I am limited to what's posted at The Cover Project.

for the record I'd pay (and I bet lots of ppl would to) to have cases like this made as opposed to the generic cardboard

Send me your source image for the cover and I'll photoshop on a sega seal for you.

Looks good though, well done :)

If I'm not mistaken, the reason EA games had different shapes than regular SEGA games had something to do with SEGA not licensing EA's games. I'm not 100% sure about this arrangement and don't remember where I read it. If anyone can verify this please do.

Anyway, great job on the case.

All of EA's Genesis games were licensed. I believe they just made the shape different so their games would "stand out", as it were.

Actually there was a bit of a snafu regarding EA and licensing with Sega. I remember reading about it and found this from Googling...

"When E.A. president Trip Hawkins chose to participate in the 16-bit era, he started negotiations between Sega and E.A. to form a licensing contract, in 1990. However, Sega didn't aggree, because the terms, E.A. had described, weren't really what Sega had in mind, especially considering licensing fees or other restrictive terms, E.A. had layed out. Sega would not aggree, until E.A. adverted, that Sega didn't have much of a choice, since E.A. already disassembled a Mega Drive, having analyzed its technical specifications to be able to manufacture their own unlicensed cartridges. These two parties then agreed on a contract, that wasn't fully (but almost) what Trip Hawkins was looking forward to in the first place, but it surely brought Sega the utterly due third party support."

EA wasn't the only culprit. Accolade pulled a similar stunt and that's why the Genesis has that disclaimer screen pop up whenever you turn on the system.

Back to the subject at hand. Nice job on the case. I tried a similar thing years ago but actually cut up the cardboard cases and fit them into hard cases. Not one of my more stellar ideas back then but I was afraid the cardboard cases wouldn't hold up over time. Of course now I regret doing that to those cases :beaten:.

If I may nitpick, it'd be nice if the Genesis font was a little more centered on the red bar and if there was a way to include the Sega logo at the top of the red bar then it would completely kickarse. :rocker:

Well I don't think I could take money for this kind of thing in good conscience. All I did was cut some plastic and print out/cut a cover and insert it. The people who deserve the real credit and support are the people over at The Cover Project, their growing collection of scans for these types of things is an asset to collectors, I just hope they can get some more 32X covers uploaded soon :)

That really does look good! I'm gonna have to give this a try, except my printer sucks. Bu I know I have some EA cases that I can cut into...
