So like my previous thread this one is a bit more involved. I started to play Secret Of Mana for SNES. Right now i'm a level 5 and I just made it to a cave place. My questions are as follows:
1. is there somewhere online or a book that has a map of the overworld?
2. what is the point of the game, all I keep doing is killin mushroom people, bunnies, and dragonflies.
3. any gameplay advice? like whats good armor etc....
thanks in adance. I'm really enjoying this game.

piggybacking on this:
- about how long is this game on an initial playthrough?
- does the game even have an internal clock to measure playtime?
Kicking around the idea of playing this this week (unless I wind up getting Final Fantasy IV for DS, that is).

You might be noticing a pattern here.

The game itself is best experienced in two or even three player mode. I was just playing this game yesterday for the first time in quite a while. The translation is worse than I remember. The story starts out rather slow, but it picks up. However, this game is more about the gameplay than the story, which is why it is better with more people.

I'm not sure if it has an internal clock, but I'd estimate around 50-60 hours if you take some time to explore and level up your magic. A bit of a tip to level up the girl's magic real fast is to keep using it in front of Gaia until your mana runs out, talk to her so she'll refill it, and repeat. Also, your magic only levels up to the amount of elementals you have.

Yes there is... there's several, I believe. I have one by Prima which is written like a mix between a strategy guide and a novelization.
2. what is the point of the game, all I keep doing is killin mushroom people, bunnies, and dragonflies.
Keep playing, you'll discover plot threads to hook onto. This is a 16-bit RPG, its not gonna just say "defeat Koopa rescue Princess," it slowly develops.

The game itself TELLS you what the best equipment is--it provides stat comparisons when shopping.
Best beginner's advice I can give is make sure everyone uses every weapon for awhile. There's a sort of weapon proficiency thing where characters get better with a weapon while they use it, which allows them to do charged attacks. The same thing goes for magic once you get it--use it a lot. Take time out to level it up if need be.

I'm know Ninteno Power either A) put out a dedicated strategy guide or B) Had a portion of their magazine filled with maps and strategy bits.
A local store has it for sale, but it's behind the counter so i'm not 100% sure how in depth it is.

It's option B. They never did make an actual strat.

Nintendo may not have, but there is a strategy guide available for the game (from Prima). Rusel DeMaria wrote it; and it's "offically" backed by Squaresoft:

(Whatever you do, don't buy it for $80.)
I remember my friend had one of these -- the cover was torn off and half the pages were missing or bent, but he still gave it a prominent place in his bookshelf.

Oh the subject of the Nintendo Power coverage, they were self-admittedly Mana-crazed, so they gave it a whole ton of coverage over a few issues. If memory serves, I think they covered the entire game.

Funny that, I just got the urge last night to play this again too.
This, or SD3.
