So... my 360 died. It was a pre-launch console I'd modded ages ago and it served me well. I've got a bunch of arcade games downloaded on it and a gamer profile I want to keep.

I've read I can purchase a new console and with enough whining at Microsoft they've got ways of getting my games over onto the new one. Where I'm at a crossroads is deciding where and how I want to get my new 360.

See, I'm in Canada.

And we don't really get all the same content available on live here. We have dick for TV shows, movies, and I'm pretty sure there's a bunch of other Live content that we don't get either. (Adult Swim goodies, etc)

So I'm looking at the possibility of buying a 360 and registering it in the US and trying to port my profile and other stuff over to it. Worst case I'm having to create a new one, I figure.

My question is - who's had experience using a USA 360 in Canada or vice-versa? I can buy the points online with a CC# so I'm not too worried about that in the future, but I'd like to know more about the implications of cross-border 360 love.

And 360 and USA are both below 4 characters so my searching abilities are limited.

Anyone dealt with this before?

You can buy a 360 from the US and use it in Canada with no problems but you will still have a Canadian account because your address is Canadian so you will still be limited by what TV shows and movies you can download.

I don't know about creating other region accounts and buying points for said accounts so I'll leave that up to someone who knows more.

I was thinking of registering it using an address in the US. It's the same hardware for the console (I believe) and I think the region is set when you first start up the machine, no?

Well, I'm not sure about the Candian region but this is what I know.

The US/Canada/Mexico 360 is the same system, meaning that it will play any title from those regions. As for content exclusive to whatever country you need a live account for that region. You can then access that content with your main account. I've done it for Mexico and Japan (Europe doesnt have any exclusive XBLA titles).

You used to be able to add points with a credit card on Xbox.com, without attaching a card to that account. I had trouble doing it a couple weeks ago, so I don't know if they changed that. You can also buy point cards for what ever region you want as well.
