I was wondering if I could get some help from the tech guys here. I am in the process of repairing a PS3 which has the yellow light of death. You turn it on then it blinks green then yellow then back to blinking red in a kind of stand by mode. I have done everything I could think of from checking fuses in the power supply to making sure there was enough thermal putty on the processors. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks guys.

Son - why do you have a question on the PS3 and a picture of an XBOX 360 as your avatar?
Is this suppose to show the duality of man?

RyanMurf - it's Dustin - you helped me with my PSP last night at DP. My joke was a poor attempt at quoting the movie Full Metal Jacket
I think it goes: "Son - why do you have born to kill written on your helmet and a peace sign on your uniform?"
"it's to show the duality of man sir"

About the question, I've only successfully restored one whole PS3 with this problem with a repair to the cooling system. ALL of the rest were heat damaged, and irrecoverable motherboards.
If it's a 60GB or 80GB flavour mobo, your cust may be screwed, unless you are lucky.
Definitely rule out it's a bad HDD, or some other component (PSU) by testing. It's unlikely those things, but it's easy to eliminate.

Yes thanks for the help, I think it might actually be a heat damaged board because I have done everything to the cooling system for the better and still nothing. So what does this mean is it basically the same problem that the xbox 360 (HAD)?

Same but different. Much less common on the PS3. She's likely parts now.
This happened to my PS3 (60GB) last October; turns out it was the power supply that had died. Luckily it was still under the one year warranty, so Sony replaced it for free.

So your unit had no power at all, no red light, no yellow light?
