View Full Version : Your favorite DS Lite case...

I'd like to hear what everyone's favorite case for their beloved DS Lite is. I have been case "testing" for weeks now, only to have returned all of them for one reason or another. Each had something about it that I just did not like. Some had the potential to actually scratch the DS while inside, some were just overkill (ie: holding every adapter known to man), and some were just cheesy.

I wanted a simple case with a size not much larger than the DS Lite itself. I do not care if it can be played or be on charge while in the case...just a good solid case that provides excellent protection and does not let the DS Lite move around while inside. I finally found that case today:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5607977

I went to a local Coconuts and they had two, over 50% clearanced for a price of $6.99 each. I bought them both for the hell of it. What a GREAT case. It is just a bonus that it holds three games and an extra stylus. I really didn't need that, but it is welcome. The case is to the DS Lite what the Playgear Pocket is to the PSP in my opinion, minus of course the ability to charge or play while in case.

It is just a case, an extremely solid one at that, that is visually pleasing (nice to see my Zelda DS Lite inside of the case while closed) was sold at a great price, and is exactly what I have been looking for. I did some searching on the net for other retailers of the case (such as the Walmart link above) but it seems the case is no longer sold anywhere. Heh, figures. Seems it is Murphy's Law that this happens to all good videogame accessories.

Still, I'd like to hear what others have found in the ways of DS Lite cases, and what qualities they possess.

I've been using a folding plastic case with two compartments, one for games and one for the DS. It has a rubber lining and the DS logo on the top. The downside is that the DS will scrape the divider between the two compartments, so I have to put a kleenex on top of it.

I cant find the brand name and I could't find a picture of it online. It's the only hard case I found that seemed adequate.

I had that case. A dark blue one. The problem was the plastic tabs that scraped my old DS Lite. Damn thing put two round swirls in the shape of those tabs on the top of the unit. What a crappy design.

I use the olg gba case with the velcro pocket and zipper. The dslite goes into the velcro pocket and the games go into the zipper.

I have the Hori Multi Pouch DS Lite and it has very good quality and protection. There is also a separate compartment for holding accessories and games. However it's difficult to fit into your pockets. I put an extra stylus and cleaning cloth in there, but the charger can also fit. I'm going to order the Hori Compact Pouch DS Lite since I hear it is smaller.

Here's a thread with a review of both: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97295

This one, it's about $10 new at gamestop, it's perfect, straps for the DS Lite and a center fold with pouches for games.

The Swing-out Grip Case (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Lite-Swing-out-Grip-Case/dp/B000IOGZ8O/).

It holds three games, makes the DS easier to grip, and has holes for the earphone jack, power supply, and GBA slot. It's pretty sweet. Pretty much the only downside is that you can't access the stylus while the DS is in the case, but it doesn't bother me much.

I've just been using the FF III caring case for the last year.

Seconded. Mine's set up a bit different but it's the same idea.

I use a Nintendo 'Switch-n-Carry' case. Basically just a small soft portfolio-style case that zips up down the middle. Has room for the DS, power supply, 3 game cards with an extra pouch on the outside to put some extra styli or whatever else in it. I never liked plastic shells (feel too bulky and unnatural), so this case is perfect for me.

I use this little bag from Samsonite that came free with my camera:

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i135/sweaterfish/dsbag.jpg

It's a nice thick nylon and padded with a draw string top. The DS Lite just fits perfectly in it, but not much else would, which is fine for me since I have flash cards in both slots of my DS so I never need to carry games with me.

Sometimes, I do want to carry the AC adapter or some other accessories like the Taito paddle with me, so I'm looking for a bigger case that has room for stuff like that. Haven't found one yet that seems right. Currently I'm keeping all my other DS stuff in an Atari Lynx case along with all my Neo Geo Pocket, OneStation and original Gameboy stuff. Amazing that all that stuff fits in one case, but the Lynx was pretty big. I've been using this same Lynx case continuously for 15 years and it's still in good condition, pretty nice.

I've been using this(mine's gray instead of blue):

Mainly since I'm too lazy and cheap to find a new one. The system does move a bit on the inside, but it holds a good number of DS games, plus an AC and/or GBA games in the extra compartment. Plus it has an 'indispensable' handle.

I use the NDS-N12 from ALS Industries. Simple, compact, and dignified. It's the best DS case available IMO. It has a zipper on the opposite side (not pictured) that holds games if you're so inclined. Mine is all black (not grey like below) and my wife's is pink. We got them at BB.

You forgot to mention one major thing: this case is intended for you to never remove the DS. Is has clear vinyl that you slide the DS into with holes for the buttons and screen. It also has a hole to slide the stylus in, but you cannot get it back out without taking the DS out of the vinyl, which is a serious pain in the ass.

I bought a bunch of these for me and my friends and ended up returning them all. If it was exactly like this, but without the stupid vinyl, it would be perfect. It is cushiony, snug, and can hold 3-4 games as well.

I would love the Hori case mentioned, except they are out of stock on the pink.

The ALS NDS300 is slightly larger and perfect except for one problem: it only comes in purple, pink, or blue.

Intec actually makes a case that is identical to the ALS NDS12, except without the vinyl. The only difference is instead of the beautiful DS logo stitching on the case, it has this fugly rubber INTEC logo. It's a deal breaker.

I have the same one too. Turns out that the DS Lite is about the same size as the original GBA.

Easy solution. We just cut out the plastic with an exacto knife. If you looked at it, you would never know the plastic holder was once there.

I dont use a case, I use the Nerf armor. I drop it and it bounces!

I tried the Nerf armor, but it just wasn't particularly comfortable to hold. Plus, there's no space for games or anything.

I have big hands so it feels better for me.

Also I don't play videogames on the go so I don't need to carry them around.

Hmm. I actually considered trying to rip out the plastic, but for some reason it didn't occur to me to cut it out.

I just figured there were better cases out there somewhere. I have searched online and in store and have yet to see anything even remotely close.

I have the same case for about a year and it doesn't rub against my DS at all. Other then being kind of heavy it works well for what I use it for.

So, what's the name of this case or who makes it or how can I track one down?
