View Full Version : Gaming Night at Schenley's: 8/23 = Central NJ

It's time to christen my third or forth iteration of the room of doom!
I'm currently working on whipping this all into shape for a gaming night. Here's what to expect:
-Full sized MAME cabinet
-Bar-sized pool table
-25 (+/-) old school consoles all hooked up to
-90"-100" projection screen (in progress; subject to availability)
-Seperate 52" screen with Atari / RF based systems
-Thousands of games to choose from
-Board gaming marathon with some classic arcade-related Milton Bradley games
-Perhaps even a O2 board game session (I've got to use them at least once!)
-Possible tournament (game/system T.B.D.)
Saturday August 23, 2008. 7 PM sounds like a good time to start, but whatever works for you is good... For a general idea of where, check out the direction link at http://www.racewaypark.com - I'm like 1 mile away from there. You can also say I'm about midway between Next Level Video Games and Digital Press Video Games. PM me for more thorough directions.
I will talk my wife into making some type of general dinner-type dish (or subs or pizza or something). We'll also have some typical munchies. Beer will be availabe - anything else you wanna drink, feel free to bring it along.
I hope to see all the usual suspects! Let me know if you can make it - either via PM or this thread.

Usual suspect #1 reporting for duty. Once again the lure of beer makes this a no-brainer.

Come on, there's got to be more people that want to play tons of games for free!
Bueller?
If I don't hear from more people, I'm gonna stop painting the basement!

One of my nicknames should be FearOfCommitment. I'd like to go, but the night-before is a company party, so I'm not sure yet whether or not I'll get it cleared by my boss (i.e., the wife).
Keep painting.

A pool table and a Mame Cabinet!? Count me in. I will be bringing by a bunch of GS promo freebies that just take up too much space in my house.

OK, the huge screen is up and working! I haven't measured the actual picture yet, but the screen size is over 10 feet long!
Painting is about 85% done... Hopefully I can get it done by the weekend.
The keg is ordered - Yuengling. If you don't like it - bring something else. ;-)
Also, my wife agreed to make some pulled pork sandwiches and baked ziti. We'll have some chips and crap too. If you don't like any of that, feel free to bring something else.
I'll PM you guys in a day or two the exact directions.

Uh, OK.
Not sure what Monkey Bread is, but I'll try anything once! ;-)

I don't think I'll be eating or drinking anything until I get to your house. :-P

He's just coming to take a dump in your trade box:

My babysitter's kids are sick so I might have some child care issues Saturday...I'm still more likely coming than not though. If I come I'll be looking to hitch a ride with one of the Next Level crew, I'm extraordinarily dangerous around a keg.

Sorry guys...I was just about there but no matter what way I went on 527 I couldn't find Main St....there was a road that was blocked off by the police something tells me that was it. Of course I had to rush out of the house today and I forgot AJ's number. Just an all around crappy day for me. The saga of the Commodore monitor continues...

It's too bad you missed it. Speaking for myself, I had a great time, thanks AJ. Thank your wife too - (Jenelle?)
Awesome basement, awesome eats, and awesome company.
A taste of what went on tonight, for those of you that couldn't make it:
* Serious Drag Racing action
* Fun with unusual Mame Games (I reacquainted myself with Two Tigers, a game from long, long ago.)
* Fireworks to kick off the inaugural Donkey Kong boardgame competition
* Earthworm Jim II on the BIG screen
and of course, much more.

What a good time and a good host! Schenley has a pretty sweet house and had the best set up for gaming I've ever seen. I hope he's got pictures to post because his basement is a sight to behold. The giant projection screen (with 15 systems set up to it), his custom Mame cabinet, sweet shelving set-ups, fridge filled with beer/other drinks, kegerator (keg fridge), pool table, and other smaller set-ups like a Vectrex, Odyssey 2, Atari 2600 on a separate big screen TV were all awesome. I especially liked the Odyssey 2, which I had never played before, and I really enjoyed but I don't know what game I played and I also liked playing pool and rocking that Mame cab.
If Schenley decides to ever host another gaming night I will definitely be coming, and will be able to get there and not get lost for an hour like this time.
Thanks A.J.!

Don't worry, same thing happened to us. We had to use Nick's phone to go onto the internet, and into my PMs to get Schenley's phone number. It took us 2 hours to get there.
Oh, well, one week is the SJC!
As for the GNaS (Guh-Nah-s (Oh Yeah!)) Kick Ass! I loved it, got to sit though 20+ minute intro of Magic Knight Rayearth, and didn't even get to swing a sword. Got to play some arcades I never got to play on Schenley's MAME cab, that volley ball game was good. Pool table rocked, Vectrex, cool, and the food...A-M-A-ZING! Spices in the pulled pork, so good. I ate like 5 in the first sitting.
Thank you Schenley, again, thanks to your wife for the fantastic food, and thanks for the rock'n digs to host the event. You picked and made a winner out of that house. I will try those D-Sub connectors...in the next 5 years, lol.

O2 action? You guys are killing me. The tragic part is if my wife hadn't got home late that night, I would've caught a ride with you guys. Next time I'm getting "old school" directions!

Thanks for all the thanks guys! My wife was very happy that you all appreciated her food.
I thought I posted since then in this thread, but I guess I never hit submit reply.
I really had a great time and I'm glad that all of you came!
And, to those of you that got lost, (sorry first of all)... Look at this google map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=40.255975,-74.341564&daddr=CR-527-ALT%2FIron+Ore+Rd+%4040.260672,+-74.398331&hl=en&geocode=%3B16474124549727308533,40.260672,-74.398331&mra=mi&mrsp=0,1&sz=13&sll=40.268131,-74.363537&sspn=0.088413,0.12188&ie=UTF8&z=13). I think it's a lot easier (especially at night) to go to the eastern 527 (marked A on the map) instead of the 527a that you guys most likely took. There are too many turns involved with taking "B". Just an FYI for next time!
And, yes - I do have some pictures. When I get some time to download them from my card and upload them to the web, you'll see em! I'll also take some more shots because it's tough to get the lighting right to see the screen in all it's glory.

Oops - sorry. Photos are uploaded to my site. (http://photos.griglak.com)
I'll be adding captions (hopefully) tomorrow.
Schenley

OK, captions are up. Most of the photos were from after the actual game night. I was too drunk and too busy that night to take photos, plus the lighting is horrendous for photographs.

Looking at these photos makes me realize how crappy they are. I'm going to work on getting better ones.
