I was wondering if there is anyone inside the US that performs mods on the PC Engine family of systems. I have a Turbo Duo with an S-Video mod and would like to take it up to RGB or component(using a transcoder) in the near future. Any help in this area will be greatly appreciated.

go to www.multimods.com and ask this guy. He can do anything with a duo, and it's professional. I have delt with him many times. You can also find him lurking on the neo-geo.com forums under the name D-Lite

Bzzzzzt. Sorry. OSG does not do RGB mods at all. Since virtually no consumer TV's use RGB, the demand for the mod is beyond small. Less than 1 request every other year small, and we handle 70 systems per week! That's what 0.0001 %?

Sorry, but other guys like D-Lite can maybe help you.

To Oldschoolgamer,
RGB demand may be on rise for one important reason: the RGB to Component transcoder. This device accepts inputs from Euro SCART cables and converts it to component video. It has become my personal savior over the last year!! I now have 4 more sytems that are in component video including the Genesis, SNES, N64, and the Duo. Just out to pass the word that demand for RGB is increasing as I write this. Good day!

Actually, D-Lite's been gone for quite a while due to less than pleasant circumstances (I won't bother with the specifics, go to the PCEngineFX forums and do a search for him). I don't really know of anyone who does RGB mods now, so you'd be on your own with that.

I should also point out that even if very few TVs have RGB, you can still get yourself a transcoder and convert the RGB signal into component, as Erik stated.

Classic system > Mod that does not work with a modern TV > to use with a third party device = not a compelling service to offer.

It's drilled down to a sub set of a subset of a subset of gamers.

If I had a 15X increase in demand for RGB, it would still be fewer than 1 system per month.

But I will log the request!

Oldschoolgamer,
You make a valid point about a classic console on a modern TV with incompatibility issues. Yes, people who do this should play it on a Standard Definition TV. I play all of my 480i consoles(even the PS2) on my Sony 27" SDTV, while I play all of my 480p+ systems on my Sony 34" CRT HDTV. I even have 2 PS2 systems so I can play my 480i games on one TV and 480p games on the HD-set. I guess I could be called a videophile...

It's tough for videophiles, playing systems from many different generations. If top of the line analog (S-Video) is not good enough, effort and money will likely have to be significant.

In my experience S-Video and component on a classic system is damned close together, and not worth the extra cost to go to component for that last 10% of improvement.

Of course, RGB is a tad better than component apparently.

It would be nice if someone made up a do-it-yourself kit for the amplifier, or at least just a blank PCB. I hate dealing with breadboards.

Erik,

did you ever get your Duo RGB tapped for an external encoder?
