I've made it to the part where katrina is in trouble and I need to find her and her dog alice but I keep looking and investigating (as guides tell me to) but alice never shows as she is supposed to

Umm, have you found the dog yet? Remember that in Snatcher, one event triggers another. You've obviously overlooked something in the house, retrace your steps.

What version are you playing? Sometimes the MSX version doesn't emulate right.

i'm playing sega cd and i got this to work but now I am stuck in a different spot (at hq after finding out one of the benson's is a snatcher)

You LITERALLY have to "look" and "search" every possible room and things in the room twice before you can fully proceed. Eventually, you will make it back to the chief's office and notice something on the table ;) Good luck and enjoy the rest of the game!
