Someone local is selling "Pokemon Emerald version 2". I've never heard of this before. Is it fake? I'm not really into Pokemon myself, so I don't know. It just caught my eye because they're selling a GBA game for $40.00. Here is their post:
Was $50 now $40 firm.....Gameboy advance game which can be played in either your gameboy advance or your DS. You will not find this game around here anywhere. I bought it off ebay for a little over $100. You could be the only kid around with this Pokemon Emerald "2" game. I haven't even seen another one on ebay. I had bought it for my son and he loved it but now he is selling some games to buy new ones.
I searched online and found this page (http://www.ecvv.com/offerdetail/I1212198b.html), which has it, but looks sketchy. I've attached an image from their post and from the above website.
So, I'm assuming this is fake - am I right?

Very fake. The Pokemon GBA games, with the exception of Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, all have colored cartridges that correspond to the name of the version. Example: The Emerald version has a translucent green cartridge casing.
I seriously doubt Nintendo would release an Emerald 2 after stopping support of the GBA.
Report this jerk.

its one of many many pirate pokemon carts, its most likely that digimon one that plays just like pokemon but sucks, and is probably in japanese to boot.
neat for like 10$ as a conversation piece, hardly worth 40$ though.

there was a cool ebay auction i bid on and lost a few months ago of like 20 gba pokemon games 15 of which were pirate carts with rediculous things like, pokemon jet black, and pokemon horonija adventures and all kinds of other bs, would have been an awesome conversation piece and probably would have yielded at least one good pirate game.

I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt and sent him a message letting him know its fake. This is his response:
Its not the same as emerald. Its a different game. I have other Pokemon games that are gray games the same as this one. If your not interested in buying the game then why reply??
I then responded letting him know that if his other gray games are GBA pokemon games that they're likely fake too. I also told him that he now has an ethical obligation to let buyers know that its fake and if he doesn't amend his posting I'll have to report it (its on kijiji).
edit:
His response:
Just because you say they are fake doesn't mean they are. I have boughten on called gotta catch'em all and it wasn't colored and it was in the box. Besides how can it be fake when I even have the manual! I do not order things from China either.
I'll have to report it :(

"I have boughten on called gotta catch'em all and it wasn't colored and it was in the box."
Sounds like language lessons from the Sizz.
Sounds like a complete idiot. I'd report him.

I think what he means is that he bought one called gotta catch em all. What game is he thinking of? If its a GBA game it's got to be another pirate?

Yeah, I'd say that's a fair translation.

About as real as this version here:

If Nintendo won't admit to these blockbuster titles on their website, why would the ESRB?

These are pretty good looking boxes though - I'm impressed with them, like the sparkle in the background looks like a regular retail box. I suppose if I knew more about pokemon I wouldn't be so easily fooled, but those boxes are pretty great.
edit: HELL YES! Pokemon Quartz edition. (http://www.ecvv.com/offerdetail/I1212212b.html)

Naranja and Quarts (also Chaos Black, probably others) are legitimate fan-made pokemon hacks that have been released to the internet, that pirates then put on carts to sell.
I'm actually working on a pokemon hack myself, and this is why I won't release a rom publicly until it's done enough...i want to be able to buy one!

If you gotta buy a bootleg version of Pokemon, at least try to find a working copy of Jade.
