My tax returns came, so I decided it was about time that I get a PS2. I mentioned to my brother that I was thinking about it, and he offered to sell me his since he wants Xbox money. I paid $180 for:
-System, 2 controllers, memory card, off brand dvd remote
-Grand Theft Auto 3
-Grand Theft Auto Vice
-State of Emergency
-Tony Hawk 4
-Gran Turismo 3
-Tokyo Extreme Racer
-Test Drive
And a couple older sports games, I forget which. Now normally i'd be pretty excited about this, but with a price drop on the horizon, and the fact that I'm not interested in racing games or the GTA games, I'm just wondering if I should have spent that much. I only spend about $20 on video games at any one time, it's not like me to throw that much money on games, especially when I don't like the majority of them. Thoughts? I dunno, would you have done it?
Also, the ATV offroad series and Parappa the Rapper 2 were the first couple games that came to mind for future purchases. I've completely overlooked PS2 reviews since I haven't had one. Are they any good?

IMO, that's an awesom deal! If the price does drop, it will most likely be to $150, then considering how much the memory cards, extra controllers are it would have been well over that.
Well, just think about it, you got 11 items (system+1controller counts as one item) for about $16.36 each.

I love my XBOX, and I never play Halo. Pretty much for playing Capcom v. SNK online and voice chat with PSO.
However, it's not that bad of a deal. If need be trade some of the games in (you get good store credit for Vice City) you can pick up some games you actually want. Overall, not a bad deal at all.

Don't get me wrong. I like my x-box. But i like my PS2 better. Maybe I am still bitter for spending 300$ on the xbox. who knows. :-D

That pickup is awsome for the price (except for that over-hyped garbage game State of Emergency). I am kind of confused why you bought the stuff even though you don't like most of the games. Well maybe you can get some money for them or trade them for games you want. Either way you can't beat the quality for the price.

Well, considering I paid $299 for mine and just got one controller, I'd say you did ok. :)
(Of course considering again my PS2 was gathering quite a bit of dust until I got DoDonPachi 3...;))

With what I've heard of PS2's unreliablitly, I'm hesitant about buying a used one (ie without a warranty). Thoughts?

Good deal but you should trade in most of the games. Keep Tony Hawk 4 and GT3.

Sony will fix it for free..even without a Warranty..
I have 4 PS2's..Two are from launch..
One of the launch models started acting up..and then I got "Disc Read Error"
I had opened this PS2 before, but I slit the Warranty tape so I wouldn't look voided..
So I called Sony...and they said theywill fix it for free..They guy said that as long as no changes were made internally(like a Modification)they will fix it..
So I shipped it to them with tracking,Insurance, and deivery convermation..
Sony gives you a work order number so you can check on it's progress.
I knew when it got there when it was takin in by a tech and that it was being worked on..
The repair only took a day...because I checked the tracking # and it said Sony received it....(A week in total)
Then I checked the work order throughout the day and by the evening the progress said shipped back to me..with a tracking # for Federal Express.
The tracking # worked too.
Two days later it was delivered by a yellow truck..Not sure what Company that was but I came when the tracking # estimate said it would.
I was like Holy Shit..that's fast..I was very worried about this system being lost..
They included a work order sheet and new warranty..(I don't know how long it's for)But it's for the work done....the original warranty ran out a long time ago..
The paper states that they changed..
Device Optical KHS
Tray Assembly
Void Tape
(problem was)..constant...No Mech Motion
When I spoke to the guy on the phone he never asked for a warranty..
He had no clue on where I got the system..It could of been used..
He asked me for date of purchase( roughly)..Simple questions..
Just make sure you verify your address twice..He had my mom's address because I'm a member of Ps underground..
After all of this it the PS2 works perfect now and it only cost me $11.00 to ship it..
This is the second time I sent Sony a PS2..the first one was for a friend and that worked out the same...
I'm very happy with the way this all worked out..and Very Surprised..

When I bought my PS2, it was only ten dollars more for "refurbished" over used. I figured it would cost me about that much to buy a can of air to clean it up, so I picked up the refurbished model. No problems so far!
