The Street Fighter controllers ARE Saturn controllers. They're the exact same thing from the same manufacturer. Much cheaper too.

I second that, the Street Fighter Anniversary PS2 pads are excellent and they also make an XBOX version as well, plus there is a cool hologram on each one. :wink 2:

The Street Fighter controller is different than the Saturn pad.

The SF controller are a nice controller but do not expect Saturn pad quality from them… only big problem however is that the start and select button are located right above the action buttons and are prone to accidental pressings. It can pose problem in MVC 2 as it will reset the game

I played the Rockman Works with that controller (works on a PS1 :D ) and wow, fear my ninja Metal blade skills. It's an extremely comfortable controller, definitely a good one to consider with emulators on the PS1/2.

Yeah. Well, I guess you guys are talking about the newer Saturn-clone pads that came out a few years ago. I've never used one of those, so I can't comment, but I can definitely say that the Street Fighter Anniversary controllers don't even hold a candle to an original Saturn pad.

As your picture shows, the SF pads are much bulkier than a Saturn controller and for no apparent reason since it's just a lot of empty space inside compared to a Saturn pad. This extra size with no extra hardware gives them a cheap featherweight feeling and also seems to make the buttons sort of clacky, which I hate. I also thought the dpad was somewhat unresponsive, like maybe the throw is too far.

form the other responses so far, I guess to be in the minority on this, but personally I wouldn't recommend a Street Figher Anniversary controller at all. When I heard about them, I thought they'd be the perfect solution for me since I wanted a good digital-only pad and I love the six-button layout, but I was very disappointed with the controller once I got it. They're available pretty cheap, though, so I guess it's no big loss if end up not liking it.

If you really want the best best experience for fighting games, I'd recommend just getting an arcade stick.

You're not in the minority my friend.
I concur, the SF Anniversary pads are garbage. The PS2 Saturn pads are the absolute best pads for 2D fighters on the PS2, no question. Responsive, cumfortable, and accurate.

SF pads are worthless.
ASCII Pad FT is decent.
I've heard good things about the NeoGeo pad, and I can vouch for the awesomeness of the clicky-stick.
Saturn pad is tops.

Don't agree about ASCII pad, it's a crap, dual shock is better

One of the reasons I like my Sega Saturn is because of the D-pad. You can pull off moves SO easily.

I have adapters to use PS2 controllers with Xbox and vice versa . . . is there an adapter for using Saturn pads with either?

Save up for the Saturn pad.

As the biggest seller on ebay of Saturn PS2 controllers(I've sold 15 over the past 10 months), I agree. Although they are a tad on the pricey side, you definitely get what you pay for. No other PS2 pad out there comes close to their percision 2-D play. However, they do not fit for everyone's budget. So if you want a (really)cheap alternative give the SF controllers a try. Otherwise experiment with other pads within your budget range or just save your money for the best you can get: the Saturn PS2 pad.

Do NOT get the Xbox SF Anniversary pad. I had one and the dpad was absolutely terrible.

I ordered the PS2 version since I heard they are much better. It makes sense as the PS2 versions are officially licensed whereas the Xbox ones aren't. They're the only Saturn-style pads I can find for PS2.

You can use original Saturn pads by going through this: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=28316

...but the converters are hard to find and will probably be expensive.

BTW what is so bad about the Ascii Pad FT2? I can't find a review for it anywhere.

I just got my PS2 SF controllers today and they are excellent for 2d fighters. They're much better than the cheap lightweight Xbox versions.

I have an SNK Neo-Geo Pad 2:

Its a 6-button version of the NeoGeo CD pad complete with clicky stick. I like it a lot but am not a master of these things or good at 2d-fighters.

I have the ASCII pad pictured above and it does the job. The Japanese (and later domestic) Saturn pad is the greatest 2D controller ever made. If 2D gaming is important to you you need one.

On a side note, I've been looking for the USB Saturn pads. I have one, but want more!

Yeah I often wondered about that I figured you had a japanese connection cleared out the whole overseas supply. LOL Pricey isn't the word.

Excuse my language, but...OH SHIT!! I have always wished that the Neo CD pad had a six-button layout, wich would have made it the perfect pad. Now it's reality! I had no idea. But I'm afraid to go looking for one because I have a fealing it's gong to cost me quite a lot to get one, isn't it? But...it's so...beautiful...

Go for the Sega Style controller. The SFA controllers have D-Pads that are a little too smooth; there's too much friction, which can cause a slight delay in your half circles and such.

The SNK NeoGeo Pad 2 was also released in a box set with King of Fighters '94 Rebout.

I just have the standalone pad. I believe it cost me about £30 off ebay (including shipping). There are more pics of it on play-asia.

aha, i found this pic i posted in the import gaming forum purchases thread back in November:

I just got my Ascii Pad FT2 today and I agree with the topic creator about the dpad. It's too unresponsive and requires more effort to pull off moves. The dpad on my Street Fighter controller blows this away. I'm going to see if I can get a refund...
