OK, anyone ever hear of little fire Mario? (That's what I call him) When I was a kid, I came across this little trick where you are big, but not fire mario, and you reach the end levels (1-4, 2-4, etc.) you touch Bowser and the axe at the same time. Mario begins to flash and stops walking, just slides over to the toadstool. When the next level starts, you are big, but your first powerup is a mushroom, which makes you small. Then you get a fire flower. Little Fire Mario. Any of this seem familiar to any one? Whenever I mention it to even hardcore gamers, I get a blank stare. And I know I'm not crazy, cuz even though it's hard to do, I've done it twice. Please tell me someone else knows about this. Thanks.

I've heard about it 12 years ago, but have never seen it done.

That trick was printed in the first issue of Nintendo Fun Club News. I've never been able to do it. I've also never been able to do the trick where Mario catches on the wall if you hit it just right, and you can time it to jump off the wall.

Yeah, the little fire mario trick was a neat one...my cousin showed it to me way back in the day, and it works like this...

First, you must be big mario or fire mario. Second, you must go to a castle level (1-4, 2-4, etc.). From there work your way up to King Koopa, make your way past him to the axe, and then just stand there and wait for him to catch up. Now, is the tricky part. You have to touch him AND the axe at the same time. If you do it right, Mario will blink and you'll hear the shrinking sound, but he'll still be big.
From there just get a mushroom and a fire flower. Although you are big, you'll die in one hit, just as if you were small. And when you are small, if you get hit, you turn big again. It's pretty cool, and although hard to do, is one of the coolest glitches I've ever seen.

Whoops, forgot to notice that you already pointed out how to do it LOL

Yeah, I used to be able to pull it off at will...now it's an accident.

Very helpful when you need to squeeze into a tight spot, but still needed some firepower :)

Thanks, it's nice to find out that other people have actually seen this. It's bugged me for a long time.

@Simonbelmont7 - I love the minus world trick, I always do it, even when I'm just going to the regular warp zone. It's just fun to slide through that wall. :)

Anyone ever pulled off the turtle shell trick that gets you millions of extra lives? You can get the extra life meter to go into hexadecimal, then just weird symbols after that... it's pretty cool. :-D

Yep, done the flag pole trick. Went sailing over the top!!!!

Done it both the original and All-Stars versions.

All the other tricks mentioned I have heard of, but never done myself. Never really attempted them either!!

Yeah, I used to be able to pull it off at will...now it's an accident.

The only time I've ever done it, it was an accident. I was good at finding glitches like that just because I was so clumsy at games.

Yep, seen it done. You can get a Nesticle movie (as well as a movie of Mario jumping over the flagpole) at The Mushroom Kingdom (http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk/). Check the Bugs/Glitches section.

Wow, that sounds like a freaky little trick. Sounds cool though, really the only tricks I'd heard of were the Minus World trick and that turtle shell/extra lives trick. Trippy, a little fire-throwing Mario? :o

It gets particularly trippy because whenever you throw a fireball, the Big Mario sprite is actually displayed for a instant. (The sprite is only displayed, though; for instance, you can stand under a coin, throw a fireball, and not collect the coin.)

That was excellent, not only did I get to see this after so many years, I got to play as Little fire Mario, with someone else doing the work to get there. Thanks!

Man, I've done it all in Super Mario Bros. ;-) I can do small fire Mario, and even the trick where you die and finish the level at the same time. The procedure is the same as the other stunt, but you do it when small. I've done the minus world, warp to world 5 from 1-2, and I've got literally pages of Game Genie codes that produce neat effects, such as weird levels. I have never been able to pull off jumping the flag pole, though. What stage must it be done in, and what's the general procedure?

i did that trick all the time, try doing the same thing at the end of the next -4 stage when you are "little fire mario" it turns you back to normal size (bet ya never thought of that!)

Actually, it sounds familiar. :-) I probably did it at one point, but figured it was rather useless. Heh.

I did the "die and finish at the same time" thing as an accident at my friend's house when we were about 11, and we thought it was the funniest thing we'd ever seen when mario went flying over Toadstool...if only I could be as easily amused today...

Warp to 1-2, you say? I'm unfamiliar with that one; it's not even on David Wonn's (http://davidwonn.tcgn.net/) page. How does it work?

You mean the warp to world 5 from 1-2? Just do the minus world trick and take the center pipe before the numbers appear. You'll go straight to 5-1. It's not that useful, since the super fast track warp zone is in world 4, which is easy to play through anyway. :-)

This looks like one those things I may have done my accident and not relaized it when I was a kid.
