If you were to bet $100 with somebody that you could beat them in a game, whether it be a higher score, winning rounds in a fighting game, VS mode on a puzzle game, racing, what would it be? I put this in the classics forum but it can apply to any console game, old and new.

One time somebody bet me $10 that they could beat the crap out of me at MK: Deadly Alliance for the PS2 back when it was a semi-new release. It just so happened that I was conquering that game and didn't believe me I could go through very hard mode with sub-zero without dying. Well I beat the kid without losing and got my $10 but I just ended up buying something off him that was $10 so I basically gave him the money back.

The only other game I may put money on is Kaboom! for Atari 2600 (with well working paddles).

I know there are probably millions of people who could kick our asses at our best games, but I know some of us are confident in our skills for certain games. Also it can't be just out of your group of friends or family, it would have to be a random person or somebody who you don't know how thier skills are on whatever game you'd choose. Also post if you have put money down on games and won.

Sega Rally 2 in the arcade, so I have a proper control set-up.

I also used to be pretty shithot at Goldeneye on the N64. Although I haven't played it in years I'm sure all those level maps would come flooding back. Clocking someone straight between the eyes with a sniper rifle is like riding a bike, you'll never forget how to do it....

I also think I'm damn good at Last Blade, Zero3 and Garou: MotW considering that's about all I play. Confident to bet £50 on a game? Maybe...

The original Top Spin for Xbox. Been a while since I played but I was one of the top 100 Live players in mens singles for a while.

And I'm unbeatable in air hockey. My first job ever was a gameroom attendant at a Chuck E. Cheeses and I'd play on our air hockey table whenever I got a chance. I even invented this special technique of holding the paddle with just my index and middle fingers to give my shots way more power. I don't think I've even been beaten once since then.

The PCB of Tempest, that I could kick its ass.

After all, video games are about man against machine, and beating the high score IMO. That kind of changed with the advent of fighting games, but I think those suck anyway.

I wouldn't be able to beat just anyone at any game...but I have a few games I'd put some money on. Rave Racer (Arcade), Ridge Racer V (PS2), Mario Kart 64 (Colecovision), and Burgertime (INTV). I can be pretty good at arcade racers and I have a lot of experience with Burgertime. Galaga is my fav game but I've never tried to master it.

That's a bold statement. So you get 100% on 9's and 10's? I demand screen shots!

$100? I'd bet three G's on Capcom's Soccer Shootout, easy.

Pantech - I loved Gravitar, but almost never saw one, and never suceeded in passing the 'Core' planet on the first level. Can you beat that planet?

Mmm...not yet :embarrassed:. My strategery is to start with the "round" planet directly above the Core one. which is worth 20000 points on the bonus, then clear the other ones around it. This still racks up more points than I see most people get. Playing Gravitar is kind of like drinking straight espresso. You do it simply to prove that you can do it.

I added Lethal Enforcers to my arcade list, and what I specifically have in mind is the pistol range levels, where I consistently average 98% or higher accuracy :2gunfire:

Hmm, where do I begin.

Capcom vs SNK 2 on any console (I am horrible with a joystick, no clue why, but I pwn with a d-pad)
Manx TT Superbike on Arcade
Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2
Soul Calibur on DC
Eternal Champions Gen or SCD
Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed (that's right I said it, I am unstoppable in a fighter ship in that game)
Gundam Federation vs Zeon PS2
Pump it Up Arcade/X-Box (Nobody has even come close to touching me yet)
Gunz on PC (a game that was bought out by ijji. I will go k-style or western on you and still dominate, but that is because I can switch between both)
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War (You don't even want to step up to the plate with me on this one kid)
Dead or Alive 2 on DC (Ein will dominate you)
Dig and Spike Volleyball on SNES
Dragonball Z: Budokai on PS2 (I use krillin, and will kill anything in my path with that little dude)
Rugby on PS2 (any of them. It is the one sports game I am good at)
ESPN Winter X-Games Snowboarding on PS2
RalliSport Challenge on X-Box
Simpson's Road Rage on GCN (I got a world record, I am just too lazy to send it to twingalaxies even though I have had the video for over 3 years and nobody has beaten my score yet)
Steep Slope Sliders on Saturn

I'd put down $100 easy if somebody challenged me in a game of Super Smash Bros (N64). This term probably gets thrown around a lot, but I am the best in the world at that game. I've literally been playing it an average of, probably 2 hours a day... for the past 6 or 7 years.

Anybody? Nothing. I know that no matter how good I get at a game there's some Billy Mitchell kind of person out there that would totally destroy me.

A few years ago when I wasn't out of practice, I was pretty dang good at F-Zero X. Of course, I know that Jimmy Thai would utterly obliterate me. I never dig learn how to properly slide since I preferred "real" racing, so that hurts me in terms of time.

The only game I was really unstoppable at was "Snoopy and the Red Baron", for the 2600. I would simply not die, not even get hit. But it's not a very competitive game anyways.

That said, I will totally pwn you in Lumines or Columns. I'll also take challengers on Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (I think I'm 33-2 online if I remember right).

Since people are bringing up other types of games, I must say I rock hard at the carnival game in which you fill a balloon/tube/whatever with water. I grew up just a few blocks from one of the largest fairs in the country, so every year it was a ritual to go at least once or twice. As a kid, I totally idolized those people you'd see walking around with the HUGE stuffed animals. I stunk at every game when I was little, but once I hit my teenage years I quickly mastered the water game. I'd wait for a big crowd to gather because that was the only way to get the biggest stuffed animals, and then I'd swoop in and destroy everybody. :P Ever since that first victory, I don't think I've lost a single game. A few years ago I was hyping up my skills to my boyfriend, so I had to prove myself when I took him to the fair for the first time. I played one game, after not touching the game for years, and that's all it took. :)

Back in the day i made several $ 100 bets on one game
of Joe Montana Football for sega genesis

He got to pick his team and my team

He took the 49ers and gave me Tampa bay. (remember how bad they were)

4 bets @ $ 100 each

1. I would win the game

2. I would outscore him each individual quarter

3. I would score everytime i got the ball

4. I forget the last bet. It was something about total yardage i would get.

Anyway, I won all four bets.

I felt a little bad about taking his money just before Christmas so
i bought coats and donated them to charity.

At that time in my life i would have bet anyone on a game

This sounds like a great DP store event! $100 bets, Joe takes $10 for the house and the players compete for the other $90. Not sure how legal that sort of thing is, with gambling laws and all that...

EDIT: Anybody else find it odd that so many people here are so sure they're the best in the world at a certain game, especially competitive two player games? The only person who I'm confident in their claim as actually the best in the world is Sniderman, and I'm sure even he will admit that his accomplishment comes somewhat at the expense of Halloween being a rather obscure game for the VCS. Not taking anything away from you, Tim, I'm still in awe of your record :)

To the guys willing to bet $100 in Street Fighter games and Capcom VS SNK 2, I always think of how in EVERY town/place I have ever been to, there are so many people that can beat their friends, but if they have not actually played anybody nationally known offline, it's really hard to say you can "beat anyone" for $100 in those games.

There is ALWAYS someone better than you in fighting games on any given day...

Yeah, i'd be willing to fire up some street fighter 2 turbo on xbox live as soon as I get a new arcade stick. When I use to play street fighter anniversary collection on original xbox I beat people who were in the top 10 in the ranking system. They would usually whoop on me until I played them a few times. Then when I finally won they would disconnect right before I would win. I only met a few people who I couldn't touch. I swear they must have had programmed controllers. I have even won against a few people in real tournaments here in our city. I beat some really good players while warming up last year in the seasons beatings tournament here in columbus. Some of those people were really good though. I could take any of them if I played them enough. To get better at a game you have to play better people. I learned that playing halo for years. You can play a fighting game and be really good. But until you play better players you're not going to get better. But as soon as you do play better players you get better 100 times faster.
