View Full Version : Any suggestions for cleaning a cartridge connector for an NES 2?

I recently acquired an NES 2 on eBay...and while the picture of the item didn't look so bad, the thing was in HORRID shape when I got it. It looked like it had definitely been in a smoking household, probably tossed next to the TV and never touched outside of putting a game in it once in a while.

I did manage to get the system (mostly) back to it's original color thanks to some bleach-based cleaner. I'd like to clean a bit on the inside as well, mainly the pin connector. I know there was a cleaning kit for the original NES, will that work on an NES 2 fine? Or is there something I can use to get into the connectors without damaging anything? Thanks!

A sponge soaked in 90% alchohol works good. Try to get one thin enough, but still snug.

Take the top case off or the board itself out, hold it upside done and use a toothbrush soaked in rubbing alcohol vigorously. You will need to continuously re-wet the toothbrush . I recommend doing this over a bowl filled slightly with rubbing alcohol. Use the same technique for all systems with the exception of NES1 and SNES1 where the connectors can come out and you can place them directly IN the bowl while you scrub.

I used an eraser. That might work?

Using a magic eraser on the outer shell works well to get it cleaned.

Steam cleaners work wonders, and they leave no smells behind.

Wouldn't the moisture ruin the system unless you sealed off the ports?
