meh :hmm:

On May 7, 2003, Infogrames officially announced its name change to Atari, including all major subsidiaries.

Infogrames becomes from now on Atari .

Atari SA (formerly Infogrames Entertainment SA) maintained its symbol on the Euronext (5257), while Atari, Inc. (formerly Infogrames, Inc.) changed its trading symbol on the NASDAQ exchange to "ATAR." The Company gained all rights to the Atari license when it acquired Hasbro Interactive, Inc. in December 2000.

I hate infogrames.. here is a company that released UT2k3 with 3 CD's in PAPER SLEEVES!! Also, neverwinter nights, one of the biggest flops of 2003 (not financially but everyone hated it) a 54.99 RPG came in PAPER SLEEVES!! Infogrames sucks ass.

I'm happy. It's a quality company that has released lots of quality titles and even has a history. I remember playing Infogrames games as far back as the Commodore 64 era, and was hooked when I first played Alone In the Dark, the REAL first survival horror game.

ATARI LIVES!

It'll be interesting to see how the New Atari pursues its "intellectual rights" ie, every website with the Fuji logo or the name Atari as part of its identity. The name/symbol has all but passed into the public domain for a lot of hobbyists out there as a representation of all that is "retrogaming classic goodness." If New Atari decides it wants total control over the name, imagry, etc. - there will be a donnybrook and a half.

After all, Microsoft and Disney have been doing it for years. It could be a PR nightmare for New Atari if they decide to bite the very hands that have kept the identity alive all these years. Be interesting to see how this pans out...

It'll be interesting to see how the New Atari pursues its "intellectual rights" ie, every website with the Fuji logo or the name Atari as part of its identity.

Didn't this already happen to an extent? I thought I heard about sites being called on by Infogrammes when they first bought the rights.

As for the whole name changing thing, well, whatever. They can call it Atari, but it's NOT Atari.

Classic 8-)

I don't have any proof, but I swear that some guy legally changed his name to Playstation Two. It was about 2 years ago, and I read it at Gamespy Daily I think.

heh, well, I do agree with Raedon on the paper sleeves. It even says something along the lines of "Enter the ID # on the CD jewel case" on UT2K3.

Would jewel cases REALLY cost that much more? If so, it should have lowered the price some.

Frankly, I wish that all PC software came in DVD Amaray-style cases like the current wave of console games. EA Games said that they were going to start using DVD cases last year, but I haven't seen more than a couple of titles released that way.

Those are both Codemasters-developed games, although possibly published by Infogrames in some regions

Have you guys visited Atari's new website (www.atari.com)? There's a "history" section. Which covers strictly Infogrames, not pre-1984 Atari, nor Atari Corp. Still, not as bas as Midway rewriting history, giving the impression that Bally-Midway (or is it just Midway) published such classics as Defender (which was actually Williams) or Gauntlet (Atari Games)...

BTW, did you guys know that Infogrames bought Accolade a couple of years ago?

Heh, this is kind of like Akklaim renaming themselves to Sega, or LJN calling themselves Capcom. (hypothetical situation)

They'll never truely be Atari, Atari's the name of a company who always tried new ideas and created unique genre's.
