Sony showed up in force at Lollapalooza this year, including a huge tent It's purely for Little Big Planet. My friend and I spent about an hour playing and talking with the associate producer. The playable levels were still not 100% optimized and had some minor issues, but we got a good idea of how the final game was going to turn out. I'm pretty excited.
The only real problem we encountered was with the ridiculously steep learning curve; it's very complex. The D pad is purely for making your little sock guy make faces, and the L and R buttons allow you to manipulate the environment. There's a plane switching mechanic which leads to some confusion with the level path; there's some issues with determining depth in some environments. for example, there might be some stairs sitting on the edge of a platform which you need to be in the far level to access, but don't look that way in relation to the level or your character. The Media Molecule guys swore it's being worked on. The jumping physics are also a little less than intuitive, which is a bit of a problem in a platforming game. It's not a deal breaker, but it was annoying.
The editing features are neat too, but I didn't get a lot of time with them(there was quite a line).
