Guy said he got it March 06... but he must have meant 07, right?
It's the 60gb model. Comes with a wireless remote, HD cable, and Tekken 5 on the hdd (whatever that means haha)
I'm trading it for my laptop, valued around $400.
Were there any recalls? What can I check?
they should be ok, but make sure it's a 60gig model not 40/80 replaced with a 60 gig drive >< But they still run like champs if that's what you're worried about.

If you're thinking it's a pirated game, it's probably not. There's a HD version of Tekken 5 available for download on the Playstation store.

You got one Hell of a deal, there.
There are no recalls or other widely known issues with the PS3 that I'm aware of.

its an ok deal. you can get 60gb PS3s on ebay for around 350 on a regular basis (after all things considered, shipping etc, its closer to 380...
right now you can use the live.com 15-35% cashback from microsoft to really get a great deal.
as for the ps3's reliability. the BD drives and GPU/Motherboards fail, how widespread that is i do not know, the BD drive failure isnt uncommon however it is easy to find a replacement. id say if it hasnt failed yet, its good. most of the failures ive heard of stem from manufacturing instead of an over-time failure (like the early 360s)

What about that GTA IV overheating thing?

I'm not sure what you mean by "overheating thing"... there were reports of game freezes when it first came out (never happened to me) that the patch seems to have taken care of.

I have a launch 60 gig and it works just fine. Only problem I've ever had was a disk was giving me a hard time ejecting once. Other than that, have fun.

Don't worry, you are not alone.
I was going to get it this weekend actually, but went to BlockBuster and bought games in a B1G1 deal. I know BlockBuster in my area sells new games, and I actually told myself, "If they have gta4, I am getting it." They didn't, so I grabbed Sega Rally Revo for 14.99, and I was going to get that and then go splurge on gta4 from somewhere else, but once the guy said they were doing a B1G1, that meant no gta4 for 2 more weeks when I got paid again.

I've logged about an hour on my PS3 copy.
Unfortunately, it came out the same week/month as Mario Kart Wii, which I never expected to become such an nightly/online obsession for me. (Subsequently leading to my 1st DP store tournament "championship" victory/title : Mario Kart Wii champ!)
I do plan to get back to it, because it was certainly as much fun as GTA 3, and from what little I played had a great online multiplayer...but first I need to cap off MGS4, which I would certainly recommend once you get your PS3 up and running.
