NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Afficionados. It's FREE, and YOU are invited to attend.

Previously at NAVA...
- Though presumed dead, John Hardie showed up, and many attendees received 15% discounts.
- A Wii Mario Kart champion was crowned and possibly violated.
- Tootsie Rolls were hurled at an astonished crowd during a Rock Band performance.
- A meeting was held in the bargain bin.
- One-up mushrooms were served.
- Tremendous amounts of games and systems traded hands between attendees.
- Pictures and video tell it best:

http://www.digitpress.com/images/store

As NAVA continues to grow, it may seem to some that it's gotten a little impersonal - everyone doesn't KNOW each other like they did in "the old days" and we're not all so great at walking up to strangers and introducing ourselves. The end result is that we sometimes find out after pictures are posted exactly who certain people are. NAVA is - and has always been about - gamers mingling with gamers. I've got an idea for getting that mingling back a little.

Name badges.

You were expecting something a little more elaborate, weren't you? Think about it. With a simple tag showing your FORUM name as well as your real name, there's no longer a need for those awkward "who is this guy standing next to me" moments. We'll try it out this time, see how it goes, and make it a new tradition if it works out. I've already designed the badge.

http://www.digitpress.com/images/dp_badges_nava.jpg

That said, if you want a name badge made for you (courtesy of Digital Press), simply post here that you will be attending, and give me your real name (last name is optional). I'll figure out the forum name, I'm smart like that.

I don't have a tournament planned, but it's always in our schedule for 6pm. There was some discussion among the PBC Production folks about doing a "Reckless Cyclist" (the mini-game within Mister Mosquito that seems to be a hit around here lately) tournament, so that's a possibility.

Are you ready? It's time for another NAVA.

When: Saturday, August 30th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

Tourney idea: Track and Field for the NES with power pad support (socks required to enter).

Have the prelims be 100 yard dashes, the semis to be best of 3 events, and the final to be the whole darn thing. Or depending on the amount of involvement just have olypic mode with 8 people on 2 NES(es) and have each winner duke it out for the title.

Just an idea, also I MAY be able to make it just have to check my schedules.

You'd better believe that PBC will represent on a Reckless Cyclist tourny!!

Last Sunday we were playing a few hundred rounds at Albatross' grad party, and classic RC moves have now been named! Get ready to receive my Jackhammer Possum!

If John Hardie is going, I will definitely be there. I made that promise at last NAVA, when he promised he would definitely make the next NAVA. This begs the question, how am I going to know if John Hardie is actually going to be there?

I'll take a name tag with my name (Micky) and forum handle.

I LOVE THE badge idea! who was the smarty pants who came up with it?

Anyways, I'd love one, cause I talk to many users on this forum that say they go to NAVA, then send me a PM like "Dude! were you at NAVA? Who were you? I was looking for you all over!" so this fixes the problem. Now other members from ScrewAttack and other forums I lurk on will find me since I'm registered on every gamer forum as "Dastardly Dylan" when I post about NAVA. Sweet!

Anyways, I'll be attending, and it will be the first NAVA I shall be driving too.... AND THIS TIME I REALLY WILL! W00t!
(Can't wait for my "Congrats on Getting Your Permit Cake") Ha ha.

Jimmy will be brining Brawl and hopefully a Wii will be there set up, last month Frankie's Wii was set up and we were hoping someone had a copy of Brawl, but the store didn't have a used copy or anyone selling stuff! UGH

Speaking of Wii, As of Yesterday I NOW HAVE ONE! Finally, after 2 years of looking, and finally found one at a Toys 'R Us. If anyone has a Wii code, hit me up and we will exchange Wii codes, here is mine:

Joe- What will be set up this month? Rock Band, Atari, Contra... Or maybe even... A Wii with Brawl? :D

If we can, my friend and I can bring in our Wii with Brawl complete with Gamecube controllers for all to play. It all depends on what everyone want ya wanna do this month. I love playing Brawl with the NAVA crowd, it grows a stronger friendship with forum members, and it really gets me motivated, well for me at least.

I'll probably have Wii and Rock Band set up, but I really think I want to do another "random retro" tournament at 6. If we can get Mike "killersquirel" there I think there are a few players who want to challenge for his plaque on the wall of fame.

YES. I heard he is actually planning to run away to England, so he will never again have to risk losing his plaque.

Nice, nice. I'll be sure to bring some Gamecube controllers with me, and if the store doesn't have Brawl, I'll bring my copy as well.

Speaking of 360, I gotta come down and pick it up one day! I've been forgetting, but I think I'll be picking it up at NAVA, if it's been fixed.

Tourney idea: Track and Field for the NES with power pad support (socks required to enter).

I'm all for an NES Track & Field tournament. Here's another game that I'd bet $100 that I'd win (using the standard NES controller). :)

Joe, I'll be there as long as Greg is available and can give me a ride.

I speak from recent ownership experience, you can't play any non-power-pad games with the stock-standard power pad, so Track & Field would be a no-go.

For some reason I always thought it would function like a normal controller on the A side, but sadly it does not.

Also, Rob, I'd be willing to wager a gentleman's bet that I could best you in the arcade version.

That's too bad about the lack of Power Pad support, although I've only ever played Track & Field with the standard controller.

I'd have to decline any wagers on the arcade version, simply because I'm not familiar with it. Is it the same as the NES version? That's the version I used to play almost non-stop.

The NES version contains Skeet Shooting and Archery which were in the sequel Hyper Sports AKA Track & Field II in the arcade, but the remaining NES events are there, including the soul-crushing high-jump.

For some reason, I'm really pumped for this months event. I think because of the name badges and the fact that I'm going to be meeting a bunch of forum members I haven't met before. Also, if Brawl is set up, your all getting pwned.

I have also heard from the guys at ScrewAttack in Texas that one day they are looking to attend a NAVA. I quote them when Craig, The ScrewAttack owner says "We keep hearing good things about it"

Just one week from today, the last NAVA before 11th Grade starts for me, school... Damn. Better make this NAVA a great one. But then again, all the NAVAs are great.

See you there, guys. If you manage to find me in the store don't be afraid to say hi, I love meeting the DP forum members.

Well, I might as well scratch the picking up the 360 at NAVA idea. Got a call today that it is "unfixable".... Well... My Dad did, but I'm not too sure.

Yeah, that thing has a bad chip on the board. It's not something we can "replace". Like I told your Dad, Microsoft *might* consider this under their warranty but it's not like the usual "three lights" systems that we see so often. That should be just a technicality though - your motherboard suffered premature failure. I doubt there's anything as a user that you could do to make that happen. Still, they may be sticklers about the conditions of the warranty. It's worth a shot.

Isn't this the SECOND time you've had an issue with that machine?

PS JUST ONE WEEK UNTIL NAVA. 5 reasons why I'm excited:
1. I'm going on vacation with my wife this week, the first one in years, and NAVA is the day after I come back, like icing on a very tasty cake.
2. One of my summer projects, "gathering the class of '83" has uncovered a bunch of old friends. One of them is likely attending NAVA. It would be the first time I saw her since 1983.
3. My buddy Tim (Sniderman) is driving in, all the way from OHIO.
4. My buddy Don (TV's Hasselhaff) is *probably* cruising in from INDIANA.
5. My buddy John (CX2K) Hardie will make two in a row!

Nope, only the first. I have had my 360 for a year and it's worked fine until now, I had no idea the motherboard was severely damaged, I just thought that the rubberband to the disc tray broke, or something, but not something like this.

Never the less, I called Microsoft as soon as my father got off the phone. I needed the system's serial numbers, so I called the store again and Bryan answered and I wrote it down as he told me it. I then called back Microsoft AGAIN and they can possibly fix it, I said the disc tray doesn't open and they gave me a tip on how to fix it, then I explained the motherboard situation.

I gave them my address, and I'll have to call back again sometime this week, They said thier computers over there are having problems, so until then I'll be coming to pick it up soon, if not none then NAVA definitely. With a damaged motherboard I'm most likely going to be getting a brand new console. I thank ya'all for looking at it, I owe you guys $20 I believe.

Anybody interested in JAMMA boards? I turned my JAMMA cab into a MAME cab so I don't really need these anymore. Double Dragon (board and manual), Crime Fighters (board, manual, and Marque), Street Fighter 2 CE (board, and marque), POW (board - left half of the screen in garbled, probably a ROM issue, I just never got around to fixing).

I also have: a boxed dreamcast collection (systems, controllers x4, lightgun, mouse, VMUs x4, and much more), a loose turbo express, a boxed Sega nomad (and about 75 boxed games), boxed Jaguar collection (system, controllers x2, about 20 boxed games, composite cable). Send PMs, as I'm only carting most of this stuff out if I have interested parties. Cash is good, but I might consider trading for a decent (P4 or newer)PC already set up for MAME inside a cabinet, or pinball machines (my new interest).

Joe, my last name is Izzi. I didn't realize almost everyone gave their full names. If you already printed the tag, don't waste any paper/ink on another.

To all comers, I'm looking for another N64 (Official) 24 game drawer, in decent shape. Where I don't have to glue it back together myself! I put my Genesis one back together with Liquid Nails and wood filler. Also been on the lookout for an Official Atari 2600 AC Adapter. PM me.

EDIT: I'll have my usual big box o' tradin' goodies, but I'm also bringing a handful of clocks in case anyone's gameroom wall is barren. ;)

Send me a PM and tell me what you want. If I have time, I'll make one.

I think I'll be able to make it this month. Would anyone be interested in an almost complete NES Miracle Piano set? Has everything but the original box. I'll be bringing it along.
