With the release of Soul Caliber IV, I began to resurrect my love for 3D fighting games. And to be honest, my favorite one by far was Virtua Fighter 4/Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution for the PS2. I absolutely loved that game because of the depth. I'm an avid Akira user. Also, Quest mode was INCREDIBLE. Now with that, I have a couple questions for anyone who has this game for the 360...
1. How is the D-Pad for this game? I had some trouble with the 360 D-pad when playing Street Fighter II Hyper Remix, but that's a 2D fighting game. Soul Caliber seems to be fine with the controller. Not to mention this controller: http://store.videogamecentral.com/xbox360-horipad-ex-turbo.html isn't available yet.
2. Does it have Quest mode? Because I absolutely loved that. If it does, is it as deep as Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution?
3. Last but not least, how great is this game?

Virtua Fighter 5 is probably my favorite 3D fighter of all time on either platform. I tend to play on PS3 though for two reasons. First, I have a very nice Hori stick for the PS3. Second, the D-pad on the Xbox 360 is the worst D-pad ever and I hate hate hate it.
The Quest mode is fantastic on both platforms. There really isn't a better 3D fighter out there. Soul Calibur is awesome, but I still prefer VF.

I was actually feeling the same way this weekend so I picked up VF5 at ToysRUs for $20.
It still looks really nice, very colorful. It's alot more technical than SC4, so I find it to be harder. I didn't get the time to try anything other than Arcade though. Overall it seems good, but I still prefer the weapon-based fighting and the feel of SC4.

Go for a Hori arcade joystick. The Virtua Fighter stick for 360 was going for $29.99 new at Gamestop when I bought one. I've heard the default controller isn't that great for the game, but I assume it will do in a pinch.
Ironically, I have owned both the game and the joystick for over six months and haven't gotten around to opening either.

I'm a huuuge fan of the series and of this version in particular. Of all my 360 games, this has easily had the most play time, just because of the quest mode alone. If you enjoyed VF4:Evo, you'll feel right at home with VF5. The quest mode is very similar to VF4's, only without the annoying missions/quests (ex: evade 5 throws, etc), and the training modes are just as good as VF4's
As for the controller, yes, the d-pad sucks, but believe it or not, I actually play using the analog stick, and it's served me well. It felt akward at first, but it's far more responsive & precise compared to the d-pad, and once you get used to it, it's really not an issue IMO.
Of course, there's online play, and for the most part, it plays very well unless you have a bad connection.

That's REALLY awesome how they don't have those annoying missions anymore. I wasn't a huge fan of that.
Hmm. Using the analog stick? Huh. I can't imagine myself doing that o_O To each his own. Once I get it, I'll definitely have to see what I adjust to the best.
Your response was the most helpful! Thanks a lot. I'm defintiely going to post in this topic once I get it.

Glad I could help. When you get the game, hit me up, we could have some friendly online matches.
