I always thought that the "half" steps or 8th steps were the only kind, but are there other ones, like quarter steps or I guess 16th steps?

Yeah, in the higher level songs (and sometimes even in medium-level songs like Drop the Bomb Heavy) you see 16th notes more often. Every once in awhile 12th notes pop up, and in a few songs (Tsugaru and bag) there are even 32nd notes.

Yeah those steps can be tricky .They usually go with a odd part of the beat .Those steps can really piss you off with the controller .
