Someone posted these on the IGN boards. I think they look horrible (they're not my pictures, lol).

What's your opinion on them, hmm? I'm not one to complain about Greatest Hits cases and all, but these look pretty bad...

I don't mind the red cases at all. Usually when I stack my games, I put all the greatest hits all to one side and it looks fine. clear (PS3) and red (GH) isn't so bad of a mix of color to me. I think a solid blue color would have made more sense though IMO.

I think the slim Blu-Ray cases would've been nice to use. :P

I don't mind that so much. To me, the Platinum Hits 360 cases are the worst. The GH DS cases are up there too.

Do they have cheap Disk's to make the GH

Eh, they could have been much better. I'm a little puzzled as to why they picked red though?

I think this is the best greatest hits packaging I've seen. They changed the color of the case so it is very easy to tell apart and it doesn't take away much of the front with the "Greatest Hits" Label. This is even better than what Gamecube had!

My question is: The PS3 has Greatest Hits already?

That's not a bad design. It's not covering up a chunk of the cover art, like the PS2's Greatest Hits line did. And at least it's not that horrible puke green they used on the PS1.

I wish the case wasn't completely red, though, maybe make the top part red, kinda like Blu-Ray cases are (well, those are blue, but you know what I mean)?

they look pretty good.
and people - hd dvd have purple cases, these are red ^_~

Hd dvd isn't purple, it's transparent red. These are more solid, I really like these cases. If you don't like the cases, just buy the games sometime within a year of their release date, problem solved.

Yup, which means in about 3 years we'll finally start to see the Wii "Player's Choice" games available.

I like 'em.

I like em alot more than the 360's, fluorescent, snot green, cases, and the Wii's sterile looking white cases, that look like they belong in a cleanroom.

Okay, here's my quandary with "greatest hits" titles.

People who hate them hate them ... and they usually hate all of the designs that they've rolled out with since the PS1 era.

... but once a game drops to greatest hits price point, you can usually find the used non-GH version at Gamestop used or on eBay (new most times) for LESS than the GH price...

SO ... just get that version, save a few bucks and don't sweat the cover/case variations.

Of course, in the case of a game like Virtua Fighter 4 or Midnight Club 3 on PS2 you won't get the extra modes/characters ...

I kind of like them. The red case sticks out, but my beef has always been more with how they slaughter the cover art with various GH/PC/PH rereleases. Platinum Hits are by far the worst, but I've never been too terribly crazy about the large red chunks on the GH or the clashing yellow thingies on the PCs. That nice, slim, attractive red banner on the top looks pretty good and the red case is actually kind of neat.

But really, fuck all that noise. Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the cheap! Resistance on the cheap! Time to load up! Woo!

Cheap? They're $30. Make the games $20, dammit! Or $24.99!

I'm one of those guys that just doesn't like "greatest hits" versions. It's not so much about some bastard child of a reprint (and thus less legitimate as the original), it's about the way it doesn't fit in with the other games (in color, particularly on the spine profile).

That said, here we go again. These games stick out like a sore thumb, ensuring that I'll never own one. On the other hand, I'm a fan of RED, in case you site visitors haven't noticed, so I will say that this is the nicest greatest hits packaging I've seen to date.

I think the case works pretty well for Ninja Gaiden Stigma because of it's color. As for the other games, well....like Joe said greatest hits versions just don't fit in well with the other games in your collecton.

Am I the only one that sees a neon Orange case? Everyone else seems to say it's red. I do think red would be a good choice. Slightly ironic that it's on a Blu-Ray disc, but I guess that case is already taken.

Am I missing something? Instead of spending the time bitching about this, why not just swap out the cover and booklet to a spare PS3 case? Grab a box from your local Gamestop, if you know what I mean. Or you could also try asking for one, maybe saying you bought a game earlier and the case is broken. Easy.

You'll still have the thin red bar on the front cover, but it won't clash with the rest of your game shelf. At least the spines are relatively normal-looking, except for that "GH" in the BLUS number at the bottom there.

Ugly GH packaging is nothing new to me. That Crayola red-orange for the case is pretty awful, though. Maybe if they were slim cases or opaque, it would have been better. Or maybe red glitter? That's the ticket! Red glitter mixed in with the regular clear case plastic. Way to drop the ball, Sony.

With Ninja Gaiden Sigma the red case looks awesome, for others we will see as all won't look so hot with the red covering, I say it's cool if you hate it that much just buy the orginal case as it will still be the same price.

I'm not a fan of the regular clear plastic ps3 cases and think they look terrible. Why is the human race so damn amused with clear things..."Oh my god, it must be cool I can see through it." So, with those things said, the solid colored case for greatest hits PS3 games is a lot better looking than that clear look. Why couldn't have one of the three systems just gone for regular black standard cases that worked great for the PS2 and Gamecube?

Orange Box needs to be rereleased in an orange case.

Just scored a free new copy of Resistance in the GH case. I think I'll be taking it to a used shop and seeing if they'll let me swap it for one of their 'standard' used ones.

I hate GH cases and will always avoid them like the plague. That being said, at least the case label isn't that different than a normal label. You could switch out cases and most people wouldn't notice the difference. That's a first for GH titles.

I agree with this. I never liked the PS3 cases at all. The solid color looks much better, but I still don't like the dimensions of the things. They're not as bad as PSP games, though.

I didn't like them at first either...but now I wish 360 and Wii games would follow suit. The smaller dimensions are better. Regular DVD cases just end up wasting space. Come to think of it...why did they stop the regular sized CD cases (PS1, Dreamcast)? The smaller the better IMO.

It may have had to do with the size of instruction manuals. Remember how many PSX games were one disc but had to come in a double sized case to accommodate thick manuals?

XD

I for one think they're a great step up from Greatest Hits of old, PSX Tha Best!1, PSOne Books, and Xbox 1's Platinum Hits boxes.

There is a little strip of artwork lost along the top, but that shouldn't be a big deal in many cases.

Also known as "technical writers making themselves useful" syndrome. As has been proved through scientific polling here on DP, nobody ever reads the manuals.

simply keep the GH games separate from the standard games.

and this is the first time the GH case looks better than the original. the GH stripe is very minimal and the red cases are pretty slick.

Wow, those are some pretty ugly cases.

I'm glad they're being released though, because you'll be able to pick up the non GH version of GH games for the GH price (at least until they sell out of the non GH version, so act fast)

I don't understand why this is getting so much hate, Compared to other GH packaging *Thinks of Xbox, Xbox 360, PS1, PS2, PSP, GC, Genesis, Dreamcast and so on* This is quite good.

The Greatest Hits part on the cover doesn't take up much room either, So I don't know what everyone is complaining about... Unless the color bothers them...

And if it sticks out, Why don't you put it in its own section? I've been doing this since 2003 without being told about it!

No, I don't own a PS3.

I always read the manuals. Most of the time, I won't start playing a game until I've read the manual. It's part of the experience.
