First, a little backstory....my parents have been selling sports magazines for a few years now. Their feedback is impeccable and they've never had a problem. In a lot of magazines they recently bought, they found of bunch of Cycle Guides that were beat up. Well, they threw them on E-bay and sold 'em....here's the link......

So, the high bidder sends them this E-mail....

Hi,

Thank you for the quick response. I'll have payment out to you in the next day or two. I am including $1.30 for insurance.

Package so as no further damage (bumped corners, creases, dog-ears, tears, etc.) will occur during shipment. Please wrap the mags in plastic (grocery bags work fine). Also use extra tape along the edges and corners of the box or boxes, as they usually end up splitting open from the weight if you don't.

Send to:

Blah...Blah...blah....

Honestly, wrap them all in grocery bags??? Use extra tape??? Since the magazines are already beat up, is this really asking too much or should we just ignore it and send them like we normally would????

I don't really see a problem with that. It's not asking too much. It's only a couple of plastic bags. If you don't do it and send it normally he might get mad and leave neutral or negative feedback if they get damaged.

I see nothing wrong with it either.

Ok, "normal" shipping is double boxed and bubble wrapped. They are already sealed up, so should we open them up and re-do it with the whole plastic bag thing???

I don't see anything wrong with it either. The problem is you have already packed it up. Leave it as is and let the guy know.

I would unseal the box and redo the packaging. The guy paid for insurance so he obviously cares about what he bought.

I've had people send me collectible magazines by just tossing them into a very large priority box with NO PADDING whatsoever. Want to talk about extra damage? Some people have no concept of packing, so you can't blame the guy for giving some directives there. Honestly, I'd email him back and put his mind at ease and tell him how the items are packed and assure him they will be fine that way.

Sounds like he has the same problem I have. My mailman leaves stuff on the porch, but not under any considerable cover. Consequently, if it rains, my stuff gets all hella wet. Since I buy a lot of books to read on eBay I ask for the "grocery bag" style covering too, mainly for that purpose.
