After much discussion with DP, we have decided to revise the rules pertaining to the discussion of newer emulator projects! To keep with the swing of things in the emulation world, we have approved discussion of the following emulator projects:

Nintendo 64
Gameboy & Gameboy Color
Playstation 1

There are a few new rules to be introduced regarding these systems of course, and here they are:

Playstation Emulation: PSX ISO and BIOS requests WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. We are however allowing to talk about emulator status, where to find the emulator(s), configuration help, compatibility issues..etc.

Nintendo 64 Emulation: Digital Press will not host romfiles for this system for you, and it's staff members will not help you in finding Roms. You must find them on your own, or trade amongst each other. There will also be NO linking directly to any non-PD (Public Domain) romfile in the forum. Emulation can be discussed to your hearts content. Feel free to ask about where to find the emulator(s), how to set them up, and chat about compatibility issues and such

Gameboy BW & Color Emulation: The same rules that apply to the Nintendo 64 romfile wise apply to this system as well. Either find them on your own, or share with others without posting direct links (email..etc). Emulators for the handheld can be freely discussed. NO Gameboy Advance emulation discussion is allowed. I realize a few Gameboy/Gameboy Color emulators do in fact emulate the newer handheld, but discussion of emulating it are prohibited. Feel free to talk about the GB/GBC emulation within these however.

So, to recap, emulation discussion of just about every system out there except for the very latest ones (DC, XBOX, PS2, GCN, GBA) is allowed :) DC emulation (that is emulation OF the Dreamcast, not ON it) chat may come in down the road, but without a solid emulator for the system (yet) I don't see any point of including it in our discussions at this time. Of course romfile requests for systems prior to the N64, PSX, GB/GBC are allowed and linking to these are completely accepted, as is emulation talk....as it has always been. I have also taken a few of the old rules that still DO apply:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What about vintage gaming emulation *ON* a new system?:

This is just fine. You want to find out how to play NES games on your Dreamcast? No problem. Classic Arcade games on your X-Box? No problem there either. PS2 games on your X-Box? Sorry, can't talk about that one. Get the idea?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How about requesting Arcade romfiles?:

Well, I usually like to go by the old Mame rule on this one. The official Mame emulator will only support games from the beginning of time up to a year ago. The reasoning behind this is so the new games (say a game made this year..2003) gets it's chance to make a profit in the arcades before becoming emulated. So, if you request a game currently supported by the official Mame, it is OK.

EDIT: The Mame team decided to adjust their supporting of games from "1 year ago" to "2 years ago" thus making certain games that were supported in Mame unsupported. We still, however, will go by the old "1 year rule".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When will I be able to talk about game system "X" or request rom "x" (replace the X's with a newer rom or system of your choice):

Only Joe (DP) can authorize these. I don't know when or if this will ever happen, but you all will definitely be informed when it does!

That should cover everything I hope. Remember, I will not tolerate flaming or battles here either. If you have a problem with someone, kindly take it to the Battlezone forum. We are all about emulation gaming, and having fun here...but I assume you already know that :)
