A game where cars were used for more than racing each other and roadblasting? Unheard of! But there it was, all new and fresh and full of promise, and you'll get to experience the feeling once again on Aug. 14 when the PlayStation title arrives on PSN.

Sadly, you'll also get to experience the "honey why is the controller in the TV?"-level frustration that's been a series hallmark. Here's hoping the game's still good enough to hold up.

I approved this post just for that line.

You know, if I didn't still have an old PSOne disc of this game, I would definitely buy it from PSN.

Looks like Joystiq is trying to appeal to a younger audience these days...

(Couldn't resist.)

Anyways, Driver is one of my favorite PSX games. I hated the tutorial, though.

Meh. I still have the PSX original, but didn't really care for the game much to be honest.

My only beef about this game and others I know you can agree to this, who the hell puts a driving test in the beginning of the game before you can start?:frustrated:

Well, I had to take a test before I drove in real life on my own...kinda makes sense in a game I guess ;)

Loved Driver back in the day, I haven't touched the disc in a good 8 years though...wonder how it holds up.

I have the PC version. I wanted it because the commercial made it interesting. The rock music and the cars flying all over the place looked fun. I didn't expect a kind of retro atmosphere, but that was fun, too. Then the game became in-freaking-possible, and that wasn't fun. Then I stopped caring that the sequel never came out on the PC. And I didn't care that the subsequent sequels were crap.

A little known driving title called Gran Turismo. ;-)

But to be fair, at least you can play the arcade part of that game w/ out taking the test.

I hated that Driver test too. The game was fun for a few missions, but it came to the point where if you made the smallest mistake the cops swarmed you.

Bad choice for PSN if you ask me. Isn't it the most common game in the world? Can't we have Silent Bomber or Raystorm or Skeleton Crew or etc etc?

I loved the game up until you had to tail a car from a certain distance. Good lord was that frustrating as hell. The driving test wasn't bad at all, but that mission made me quit.

Heh, you should have went with that for your Driver contest.

(Kidding.)

Beat it back in the day on PS1, in fact, I recall getting the demo in when I managed Funcoland ... we found a gameshark code to make the time unlimited and we just drove around the city for hours amazed at the (then) benchmark technology.

I'll get it to play on my PSP ... especially the "5 cop cars 1 crook / survival mode"

not sure if I'm interested in spending a heck of a lot of time with in on my TV though.
