We've had this for months but all we've ever done is multiplayer. I wanted to try out the "solo tour" but there's no option for choosing the drums, it just starts you out as a vocalist. I tried unplugging the mic and starting from scratch but it won't even let you continue without a mic plugged in.

So what's the deal, do you have to start a solo tour on vocals?

You have to use the Drums to navigate through the menu. Once you choose Solo tour, it should let you use the drums. ^_^

Yep, Nirvana's got it. If there is one thing I don't like about Rock Band it's the confusing way in which you form a band or navigate through the pre-game.

Just got my Rockband yesterday for PS3 and the drums was the first thing I tried out. I would go with Nirvana's advice and navigate with the drum pads.

Ya, he is exactly right and also for those of you who like to play bass - there is no solo tour for bass. I played thru the game on drums and guitar and was hoping to use bass and thats when I found out. Look on the bright side tho, you can do the solo tour with the mic and look like a complete dumbass in the privacy of your own home.

AHHH. That could have been mentioned in the book somewhere, no?

Thanks folks!

That sounds just as bad as Guitar Hero not letting me plug my guitar into the P2 port to play through the game - when the song starts, it goes back to using the P1 port. Friggin' annoying...

Quick question: I love to noodle around with GH 1, 2, 3, 80s, and Aerosmith. Would like to try the songs on RB now, but only as a solo guitarist. So (as long as I have a compatible guitar controller) I can just play through the songs ala Guitar Hero, correct? No need for any other controllers or three friends?

And if I had no intention of expanding my Rock Band experience with, you know, a BAND, would you consider this a good purchase for the solo guitar player only?

EDIT: Added "Solo players" to title to hopefully get some specific answers. Hope you don't mind, Joe!

Sniderman: Rock Band one has a tour mode akin to the modes in GH 1,2,3, etc. that allow you to play straight through and unlock as you go.

Rock Band 2 does not (it replaces that with the previously multiplayer only World Tour mode from RB 1).

You can play completely through both games using just the guitar. However, you've got to keep in mind that the songs for RB were chosen with all the instruments in mind. In Guitar Hero they only picked songs with good guitar. In Rock Band that's not the case, so while a song might be fun on drums it might be really boring on guitar. In general you also won't get the difficulty that Guitar Hero brings. It's still fun, it's just a different experience.

Rock Band 2 lets you do tour play online which is awesome because even if a song is boring it is a lot of fun when you've got a whole band going. You can just jump right in with three strangers and have a blast. If I were you I would just jump straight to RB2.
