According to this story they do: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/do-e3-awards-translate-into-big-sales/?biz=. With the exception of 2000's Jet Grind Radio, all of the other games to get this award have sold atleast a million copies in sales. That gives us a pretty good idea of how well this years E3 2008 winning games will do this fall.

What I find funny is I've only played two games off that list (Jet Grind and Gears of War)

To tell the truth, I didn't even know E3 really had awards, and it obviously doesn't affect my purchases.

Awards never affect my purchases and bad reviews seldom do either. If I'm interested in a game, I'm going to play it rather it got a 1 out of 10 or a 10 out of 10. However, if it's a 1 out of 10---I won't be buying it when it first comes out at full retail.

From what I saw of those 'best of E3' awards (there are actually numerous tiers like RPG, ect as well) were all going towards huge A list titles already. Did we not expect Halo 2 to be huge? Twilight Princess? Gears Of War (it was the only good looking 360 shooter at the time)? Windwaker? MGS2? Come on, none of those games sales figures surprised me, and I didn't buy them because they got some best of show at E3. I bought them because they were either hugely strong franchises, or were outright good looking and reviewed games.
